My harmonic balencer broke a while back and i was lucky enough to meet a buddy on yotatech who sent me one off his old vehicle, problem is i dont know the vehicle and everything but the alternator belt is fine. The alternator belt sticks until about 2500rmps then goes nuts from there..... i cant take the noise anymore PLEASE HELPP

 

ALSO i have tighten the belts multiple time.... so please dont suggest that

 

Buy belts from Toyota, not aftermarket belts. In many, many experiences aftermarket belts just don't fit for , regardless of what they say. Spend the extra $2 per belt, and get the Toyota belts. You won't have any more issues.

I have good luck with Gates belts & always have. What exactly is your problem? Noise?

Have you taken the belts off to be sure which one is the problem? I just had some squealing issues & it was because my A/C belt was glazed on the sides; I took some 0000 steel wool & some 409 & cleaned the belt sides. I put on a new gates alt. belt that was shredded & the squeal was still there & the steel wool cured it.

An old fellar' I knew used a bar of ivory soap to cure a sticky, noisy belts. I never tried it myself but I saw it work for him.

edit: BTW; you CAN over tighten belts, keep the belt in the proper deflection range or you may cause other squeals to appear. Over tightened belts are hard on the false water pump bearing & the A/C (P/S on some) idler pulley bearings.

 

Ive tried tightening, loosing and everything inbetween, the noise is just getting to me. When i took off the old belt it was wore a little under the top of it, because the belt doesnt fit all the way into the harmonic balencer, could this be the problem? So the belt is the wrong width???

 

If you're in the proper deflection range; proper tension - I.E. "where it's supposed to be"....then tightening & loosening shouldn't be done & is irrelevant. If it's making noise at the proper tension; the sides of the belt(s) are probably glazed or you have a noisy bearing in the idler pulley or the false water pump (fan bracket) bearing.

Take off your belts, use some soapy water or 409 & scotch brite or steel wool to clean the sides of the belts. Just don't leave them slick with soap, rinse them off. While the belts are off, spin the two aforementioned bearings by hand to see if there is any noise or if they feel rough....they should feel smooth in their movement. If everything checks out re-assemble to the proper belt deflection/tension & your noise should go away.

 

1)Go to your Toyota dealer.
2)purchase belts for your truck there.
3)go home
4)install them.

IF your belts don't fit in the harmonic balancer very well, then you've got the wrong belts. Who would you trust more to tell you that XXXXXXXXX is the right part for your truck... Autozone or Toyota? I've replaced almost everything on my truck and used 1 aftermarket part... that was belts (because there were brand new gates belts in the back seat when I bought it). They never did fit worth the crap, so I put some Toyota belts on it, and they've been perfect.
