ball joint spacers = lift?

Not sure, but I thought (between reading different threads) that I implied adding bj spacers gives added lift? Am I right??

No, not exactly.

They don't add lift on their own like some spacers(coil, leaf blocks), but they do allow your torsion bars to be adjusted for more lift than stock(without BJ spacers). I guess they do, if that's the way you want to look at it. They add lift to the maximum torsion bar lift available when stock, should you want it.

Actually, they do add lift. 1.5 inches to be exact.

So what about cv angles? Do they cause any binding?

1.5" of lift seems to be about the most you can do without other mods to keep your cv joints happy.

As noted above, the ball joint can provide varying degrees of lift (from near 0" to 1.5" or perhaps more) depending on how you adjust the torsion bars:

For CV angles, a differential drop kit is one option if you find you begin having trouble with the joints or boots:

I'm sorry but that bit of information is incorrect. I run 3.5" of lift and have not had a single CV related problem (10 months).

How many times have you put it in 4x4? and for how long?

Notice how I said "seems" There will always be the few that can crank the out of their t-bars, get lots of lift and won't rib a boot, but most of us will tear them open like oprah on a bag of chips..

I have it in 4x4 jsut about every weekend. Its been to Tellico and on some difficult trails around here where i live. 10 months.

I dont get how some boots are suseptible(sp?) to ripping while others are not? Whatever. No big deal. I dont want to get into a pissing match about it.

Yes, an alignment is generally needed any time to change the front ride height:

If your torsion bars are cranked that much then you don't have much axle articulation. One reason I want to put my BJ spacers in is to allow the front CV to do their job rather thanthe whole truck pop up and down with every obstacle. I wheel with a guy in an FJ80 and I am so jealous watching his axle articulate and his truck stays flat through the obstacles.

So is it safe to say that if I get 2" (or even 1 1/2") bj spacers, it *shouldn't* give me any (if not few) problems with cv angles or torsion bars? I figure I could get blocks for the rear to level it out right?

The max size you want to go is 1.5". Once you go above that size you run into major problems with your steering geometry

It all depends on how hard you wheel.

I run my tbars relaxed so that I have zero front lift. This is becasue with my torsions at stock height, and the BJ spacers (1.5" of lift) i would DESTROY my steering every weekend.

If you stay on moderate trails, and don't run a huge tire, you should be able to keep it together for a while. CV life also depends mostly on hubs. If you have manual hubs, you can run a larger lift, since your cvs will be motionless at highway speed. If you have drive flanges, you will wreck CV's faster.

Blocks?? ACK!!! Save some money up and get new springs. Axle wrap is all you'll get for trying blocks. If you know someone who can weld new shackles you could get Chevy springs - those are good for about 3" lift. Seriously, call Marlin or another good company and order some good springs that are designed to let the axle articulate.

Not sure if this really matters or not but I ran around for almost 5 years with my Tbars turned up 3in with no other mods and nothing bad ever happened. It killed my tires since i never had it aligned but the CVs and boots were fine the whole time. The ride was a little worse but for the lift I got I think it was worth it.

In the simplest terms what are the ups and downs to having BJ spacers? And what do they do besides give lift?
