Don't cheap out and do a hack job. Make sure everything is overbuilt, nothing like a coilover shooting up through your hood....

You can put some ball joint spacers up front for a few inches more travel and lift:

I doubt the stock shock mount is strong enough to hold the weight of the vehicle. Not to mention a shock and spring combo to fit in a whole made for just a 2" shock will probably fade pretty quick, but if this the route you wanna take at least have a good shock hoop fabbed up.

If you're serious about desert running then don't skimp, save up for long travel

Or if you just want a mild toy get some larger t-bars, some lo-pro bumps, some good shocks, and maybe even some BJ spacers for a little more tune-ability.

And check out some of the desert forums, like race-dezert.com, and see what they think of your ideas

x2. If you plan on stuffing coilovers where the shocks went, you are stupid. There is no way in stockform it could handle the forces we are dealing with...

I want a video of you landing after going over the first dune

Its gonna be quite entertaining.

But seriously, you gotta save up for a long travel suspension if you really want this to last more than one dune.

dune? he would be lucky to make it over a speedbump trying to do this crap!

soml13 save some money and do it the right way. if you dont and try to do it cheap and WRONG, you can kill other people and yourself.
if your interested i will be selling some of my current setup (seen in my sig) in a few weeks because i am upgrading to a mid travel kit. it will get you farther and faster into the desert then trying to put on random coilovers and its definitely better then stock.
