Alignment/diff. drop question

I lifted my truck but will not get a chance to install the diff. drop for a couple more weeks. If I get the alignment done now, do I have to get it aligned again after I do the diff. drop?

Do the alignment asap, the longer you drive without it the more uneven wear on the tires. The diff drop doesn't affect the alignment at all, it won't have to be redone after installing.

x2

There is absolutely zero reason to wait for the diff drop. Your diff has nothing to do with your alignment.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Pep boys said they would do the alignment and for a small fee they offer a 3 year unlimited guarantee. I saw the people working in the service area though and I am having some thoughts that it may never be properly aligned in those three years. Has anyone had a good experience at pep boys?

Diff drop won't affect alignment. But 2 or 3 weeks won't really hurt either assuming you aren't putting on 500 miles a week and it isn't severely off. Don't sweat it but don't wait too long either.

Just got the the truck aligned at Pep Boys. The service tech did a real good job, I watched him the whole time. The truck feels much better on the road and the noise from the MTZ's is much quieter.

Cool deal. Should you find you need another alignment or just get the bug to play with different suspension heights here is a link to some instructions on how to align it yourself. Be aware that typically those 3 year alignment deals become null and void if you add or replace something in the suspension. So, if you do, try to make sure the new stuff is as dirty as your suspension or suspension as clean as the new stuff.

Yea i align my truck in my garage frequently. The only thing that is really hard to do yourself is caster, because its nearly impossible to get in there and measure that angle manually.

The tacomas are aligned using two eccentric end bolts in the lower A-arm, and a threaded outer tie rod into the inner tie rod end.

That caster spec is pretty wide on the 1st/2nd gen trucks. I don't know about the Tacomas though. If you set the cam bolts like they are in the instruction pics, you are good to go.

Do you need to have the shop align the 4runner differently if its lifted? If so what are the specs? The nearest 4wheel shop is about an hour away, and I would much prefer to have it done locally.

The lift has nothing to do with the alignment procedure unless that lift included removing the IFS and installing a solid axle.

All you need to know to align your truck is on our site at the link is post 8.

Sort of.

The alignment procedure is the same. HOWEVER, the "specs" that the shop uses will be different. They cannot simply put things at the "factory specs". I had it out with firestone over this, and will never take my truck there again. Your standard alignment shop is run by complete idiots. They cannot understand that you want your truck "aligned" and not "put to factory specs".

x100billion for elripster's alignment procedure. Been doing it for 6 mos every oil change, and I've been SUPREMELY happy with the results. It works amazing.
