so Ive been searching for about an hour and a half on here... found a couple hits... but not enough info... I was wondering if any of you have added your own seat heaters and if so how hard was it.... ???

I put one in the driver's seat of my fiancee's car.

Pretty easy installation, but you do have to peel the seat covers loose to position the heater pads (removing the seat is pretty much a given).

I was disappointed that it doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the heaters in my car. The circuit for the aftermarket one that I got only has a 10 amp fuse, so it is not a very powerful set up.

I would suggest that you try to find out how much power is required for the ones you are looking at. I would think that a good heater would need at least a 15 or 20 amp fuse in it, and a relay to run the system.

The heater went into a cloth seat.

The heater does work, it just doesn't get very hot, compared to the factory ones in my car (BMW), or other factory heaters that I've tried.

The kit I got was from Cobra Heat LLC on an eBay auction.

 

I have also wondered about this, I was bummed to find out my ltd didn't come with heated seats...leather is freakin cold! My dad's land cruiser has heated seats and its soo nice to hop in and have a nice warm bum...ne more input for leather seats??

Yes I have put in Aftermarket seat heaters in my truck!! I would suggest just get it done at a shop if you have Leather seats!!
I got mine done for $600; and they are dual Temp (Hi/Lo) and they are huge Elements (the lower is 16"L x 12"w & the back is 14"L x 12"w)

 

600!!!! holy smoke i would just swap some seats from another car or truck befor i paid that much. The seats in my 04 jetta are pretty sweet racing style seats (leather) and havea 5 level adjustment. They had a recall because i guess they malfunctioned and cause fires so i had them changedfor free. But they still work better than any i have tried befor. Heck you can get top of the line racing seets like corbuea or whatever for 600 a pair

 

uhhh yeah.. wow 600... i was plotn on spendn about 100-150$ max.... back to the drawing board....

 

While I was looking for other stuff at a pick and pull today, I came across a set of Audi 100 Grey Leather heated and powered seats in great shape. Got them, plus the cover from the back seat, and the heater switchs for just under $45!

I probably won't mess with it until next spring, but I plan to mod the seat mounts from the truck, and stick these in!

 

What about the factory heaters. Are the 4Runners pre-wired for the heaters like they are for the fog lights? Plug and play would be easier.

I plan on putting them in the celica leather seats I purchased for my 4runner. I've heard good things about them.

They come highly recommended and even has an option for the factory Toyota switch look and feel. Installation time takes around 4-5 hours or so but it's not too difficult to do. The hardest part is removing the layer of the seat to insert the heating pads. Works with both cloth and leather.

Once I get my 4runner back up and running I may consider this though it never really gets that cold here

Btw prices are around the 225ish point which is very reasonable!
