Advice Replacing Parts

Hello all,

I plan to do some work on my 99 4runner Limited 4WD. I plan to the change the 2 upper ball joints, the 4 control bushings (upper), the inner tie rod, and the end link kit of the rear sway bar. I ain't worried about how long it will take or how hard. I'm just worried with a few things.

In the manual it says I need to take the control arm to a machine to install the new bushings. But I don't get why.

Second, I was told installing inner tie rods were difficult and they required a special tool to install them but I read some write-ups and it doesn't seem that way.

If any one has any knowledge about this or anything I mention above. I would very much appreciate any advice or help they got for me.

Thank you.

I'll try to help...

Why just the two upper ball joints? You also have the lowers.

I believe its the upper control arm bushings that are a PAIN to replace. Some say its easier to just replace it with a new complete units.

And why the inner tie rods? You also have the outters which are a more prone to wear.

I have got no clue about the rear sway bar.

I have already changed the lower ball joints and the outer tie rods. I changed only these because they were the only thing acording to advance that was wrong. When i went to get alignment they told me that the rest of the parts need to be changed. Thanks for any help

I used Poly replacements and burned out the old rubber bushings leaving the metal sleeves. It was easier for me than taking the control arms to a shop to press in new busings.
