Adjusting Door

Adjusting Door
Hello all I have a 1990 22re 4runner, and I believe the drivers side door may have been replaced. It doesnt quite match up correctly, it misses the door latch by about a 1/2 and inch. I have heard you can put a jack under the door and just try to bend it up, or take off the quarter panel take off the hinges, and put washers between the lower hing and the frame. What is the easiest/most effective way to do this? Thanks

don't jack it up that will literally "jack up the door" you can possibly loosen the hinge bolts and do it that way make the holes bigger on the car side of the hinge enough to shift the door up and tighten it there
most likely its the lil plastec things that protect the hinge that are gone causing the door to sag (this is my problem)

If you're going to do that. You might as well just cut the pins out of there and just buy or make some removable pins so you can take your doors off. =) i just have bolts in mine and they line up fine. Just a thought

Check out the stickies at the top of the specific forum section for your truck there is a link to an online version of the shop manual. In the body section there are specific instructions on how to adjust the door for fit problems.
They will call for some "special" tools but these are only wrenches, no need to buy them, a socket set and maybe a box end wrench are all you will need... and of course a friend to help hold the door.
You may need to get some washers as well to adjust the fit...
You can start by looking at the door as you close it and see which gaps are off at the hinge end this may give you a clue which hinge is the problem, next get you friend to gentle lift the door with it open as you look at the hinges this will provide another clue.
