93 4Runner Intermittent Transmission Problem

I'm having a serious issue with my automatic transmission lately. Majority of the time it acts up when it's been driven for a while but here's what happens:

Taking out of drive and putting into any gear there is no reaction whatsoever, you can move the shifter but nothing happens even going back into drive. To get it working again, best thing i've found is to put it in park and wait a little while and try again, it might start working. It's very annoying and would hate to even think of this happening in a parellel park situation

Once you're in drive though it's all good, no slipping or changing.

There have been a few things which i've been pondering why its doing this like bad ground, weak signal from brake system tied to the shifting system. I found a section in the FSM section on 'shift lock system' anyone think that could be related?

What do you all think?

Fluid level was good. It looked a bit dark so i did a drain & refill of some new stuff and the problem's still there. That was my first thought
