92 4 Runner shifting problem

the torque converter lock is engaging too soon while the engine is under moderate to heavy acceleration. When the speed of the truck approaches the engine speed the converter unlocks causing a short increase in RPM and then it relocks and shifts into OD. I have briefly spoke to the dealer about it and they suggest that the TV cable needs adjusting. I have made small adjustments and have notice a change in when the transmision shifts but the premature locking condition still exists. I am starting to think that the dealer is incorrect in their diagnosis.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem before and/or know what I should be looking at.

Thanks

give us some more info on your rig; engine size, look for a tranny code on your door placard: a43d, a340e, a340h, a340f. this will help narrow down the trouble shooting.

The engine in my truck is a 22RE and it is running with a A340F transmission.
To detail the condition more - during a normal(light) acceleration the torque convertor will lock when the truck hits 80km at 3000rpm. The rpm will drop to 2500 for maybe a second or 2 then the trans goes into overdrive.
During a moderate acceleration when the trans shifts into 3rd the torque convertor locks within a second or 2 and the engine bears down and the truck slowly speeds up. The rpm at this points is around 2100/2200. When the truck comes up to speed at around 80km (2500rpm) the torque convertor unlocks, the rpm jumps to 3000 for a second or 2 and then the torque convertor re-locks, rpm down to 2500 for a second or 2 then shifts to OD, rpm down to 2000.
I also see the convertor unlock and re-lock when accelerating from cruising speed on occasion. I am sure that all the symptoms are related to the same problem.
A couple of guys at work are telling me that it is likely normal for the truck because the truck is under powered with the 4cyl. I have never experienced shifting conditions like this before so I am thinking there is a problem.

I hope this helps and I appreciate any information you might have.
