So I couldn't find my actual Steering box on YouTube or Yotatech forums, so I decided to go for it and here is my journey. Joined Yotatech just to share. You guys have helped me a lot. Thank you. Hopefully this is helpful to someone in my shoes.
Steering gear box was leaking bad enough I was adding fluid every day. Bought the gasket seal kit for around $15 from Rockauto.com. Followed Haynes manual for basic removal. The pump is tricky with the ball bearings 42 or 43. Don't lose them. Pics show my approach. The inner piece is staked from the factory. I used a Dremel tool from harbor freight with the tiny cut off wheel. Started drive out with punch, then finished with screwdriver. Take note of how flush the silver piece is with gear box housing. This guy was very helpful. Many props to him!
https://youtu.be/ZTzwG1fLVkI OEM. I did not have what appeared to be a \"special" tool . Sorry, I do not know the name of all the pieces of the box. Pictures are worth thousands of words where I'm from. I'm not a mechanic, but this is how I did it. Rebuild at your own risk! This guy was very helpful! Splined shaft was main leak on mine. This is important. Take plenty of pics before tear down. This is the nut that helps remove steering slack. This is a great starting point after rebuilding. Used vice to hold steady. Tool to grind factory staked areas x2. I had to remove more material than I expected. There is plenty there. Grind until you see the fine line between inner piece and housing. Be sure to wear safety glasses! Looked like this, but I had to grind away more material to get it moving. Try to stay more to the inside, but be careful not to grind the spiral pump shaft in the middle! Tools I used. Rubber mallet may be better. Start with punch and tap very lightly with hammer. Counterclockwise. I used screwdriver to remove after punch got it moving. This will save you some time, frustration, and wear on this inner piece. Almost there... She's out. The kit I ordered did not supply all of these Teflon bushings. My severe leak was the seal where the steering shaft connected to the gear box. I replaced as many rubber o-rings that the kit supplied. Assembly is reverse of disassembly.
Hasn't leaked a drop since! Good luck! Manual suggests using Mercon II/III ATF for my 89 Toyota Hilux. Fyi
