89 4Runner - Identify this engine electrical part

Long time wrench turner, first time yota. Always wanted a first gen 4runner, now I've got one.

Going through my new-to-me 89 4runner with 3VZE and came across this interesting wiring job under the hood near the battery.

I've got an FSM, but I'm not sure what the part in this picture is. I'm not thrilled about the wiring job it has, and would like to do some repairs and tuck the wires back into the loom. Any idea what the silver thing is?

Thanks!

One just has to love wire nuts in automotive wiring.

What you have high lighted looks to be a relay of some sort what it is for I can`t say.

A mess like that should have taken quite a lot off the purchase price.

I don't know the 3.0 but have ran into problems like what you are experiencing. On other trucks, the wiring that you are showing is easily replaced from a donor truck if you have access to one. If that is the one that connects to the injectors or goes up to the headlights, it isn't bad to swap out. I don't know the relay you are showing as well.
