Exclamation 874runner 22re runs rough when it rains?

hello all im on the hunt for answers/any good ideas.i have a 87 4runner with a 22re.ive had this one since 2011 and its my daily driver!

*The Problem: as crazy as it sounds any time rains i start the truck and it runs extreamly rough for anywhere from 5-10 min then BAM! she runs 100% like a top the rest of the day.no rain no problem starting.this has been an on going issue for quite sometime.to break down the running rough i have to put it in 4 Lo to even make it move for a good ex. then 15 min later i will be doing 80mph on the interstate with it.

its driving me nuts.

*Things up to this point

* totally rebuilt engine 25,000 miles ago
* new plugs
* wires
*distrib cap and rotor
*o2 sen
*new injectors
the problem has been with this truck since the day i got it before and after rebuild.

*Recently it would not start at all one damp night.checked the codes and it pointed toward the igniter/coil/02sen .i was lucky to have a spare i saved from my 86 4runner and been driveing it since.but if i recall that truck did the same thing with the rain and starting issue. in research i recently discoved that these distrid caps came factory with a O-ring?i will be getting one this weekend.also i will be trying a new coil to get started.

any help or ideas please throw them out there.i hope to get this figured out and possably help others with the same issue .

There should be a skinny o-ring to help seal the cap, that is correct. But I've also known guys to do some RTV silicone. Install a thin film (1/16"-ish) where the cap mates to the distributor. Let it dry completely. Then reinstall the cap. It will basically make a gasket. This is IF you can't track down an o-ring... Just a suggestion.

Inspect Circuit Opening Relay, area around it, windshield to body interface above it, and grommet/seal where antenna comes in form wheel well for leaks. Same general area where ECU is.

Not mine, but I think Chefyota's did that.

the starter keeps spining when i let off the key
When spinning, does it sound like starter continues to have power? Fortunately, haven't happened to me.

I would think that starter solenoid contacts may be sticking so starter motor gets battery power even when key is released, or solenoid plunger mechanically binds so it does not retract immediately after you release key, OR spring that pulls plunger back is weak. However, since it does not happen when starter is off the engine (starter relay not connected), I'd suspect something wrong upstream first.

Do you have to step on clutch to crank or do you use clutch safety cancel to crank? If you use clutch safety cancel and it happens only when when starter is on truck, with starter relay connected to starter solenoid, possible that ST1 contacts of ignition switch are stick? If you press on clutch to crank, even if ST1 contacts stick, releasing clutch pedal should interrupt power to starter relay.

thank you very much RAD! I always use my clutch when starting and when I let off the clutch it always stops.it don't stick very long. maby 2-3 sec when I let off the key.i do have a spare ignition switch and I will try that asap .I will try the cancel button as well to see what happens.i was just curious as to this maby was a part into play with my starting issues with rich starting when cold.unfortunately I have to wait til the next rain to see what happened with the rough running.but today leaving work I left the door open to see what it smelled like and its deff getting to much fuel. im going to dig around my shop tonight and see if I maby have a spare opening relay to test. I looked them up on ebay 100 bones a pop id really like to make shur first.
