87 motor in 89

Im putting a motor from a 1987 4runner into a 1989 4runner. Both the motors are 22re. Will i need to put more emission stuff onto the 87 motor? Or will everything be the same and will it drop right in?
Thanks

It should drop right in. Use your current ecu/harness if possible since you know it works.

Also, when I pull the engine do I have to remove the EFI?

You have two options. If you want to leave the wiring harness connected to the ecu then you will have to remove the intake plenum since the harness weaves through it. The second option is to pull the harness out through the firewall and leave the plenum in place. When I recently did my engine swap I left the harness in place and removed the plenum. It's only 6 bolts if I remember correctly.

Ok so it would probably be easier to remove it, pull the engine, then install the engine and put it back on?
