87 4 Runner Egine Swap Info

Hello
I have an 87 4 Runner with a blown/cracked 21R-U motor. I know that the questions has been asked many times but what is my easiest motor swap option. I know the 22RE is probably the easiest for plug and go but not sure if their was any adjustment needed to put in the 21 R-U. Thanks.

Go 22r..I had to look up what a 21 R-U was and it looks like its just the imported replacement to the 20r. So it should fit with no problems.

the 22re is a perfect replacement if staying toyota, double check the timing chain while the motor is out , not a bad idea to replace it if motor is used , much easier while out of the truck and costs about $130 total

What about replacing with a 6 cylinder? I see that posted alot but didnt know how much work and mod it would be. I found an old toyota van that the motor was still good but not sure about the mounts.

i have heard a lot of grief about the 6 cylinder motors, i would just stick to a 4 if i were you, i know the 6 mates to the tranny fine , not sure about motor mounts i would assume the same to make it easier in the factory to assembly, but im guessing at that,
