i was wondering if anyone new what year 4runner axle will fit a 1999 4runner. i have one that the axle house and bearing are bad so. the things i can say are i have 4.10 gears abs no locker and 15 inch wheels. any help would be great

96-02 is 3rd gen. Most all the parts between years are interchangable. The big thing you need to look for is the gear ratio and ABS or NON-ABS. There were various option packages on 4runners in those years and different size wheels some with lockers some without. If you do a search you can find VIN decoders that will show you what gear ratio is in your truck and then using those tables you could determine the gear ratio on one from a wrecking yard. Usually rear ends in vehicles in yards are the OEM ones and using the VIN you can determine if the one you are looking at is a match to yours. There are some Tacoma rears that will also fit under your 4runner but again you need to verify the gear ratio and ABS/NonABS. You should not have any issues once you find the correct gear ration 4runner rear. Good luck

 

Most all (with few exceptions - if any) elocked 4runner axles are 4.30 gears and most without the elocker are 4.10s. You could use a taco axle, but you'd have to convert it from leafs to coils. The ABS may be the biggest issue as that changed a couple times throughout the years, but you could always disable the ABS altogether and still make it work. I believe '99s and '00s have the same ABS sytem.

 

The question is - Do you need the axle shaft, the housing, or the complete axle assembly?
1. For Shafts - I believe you can use almost any IFS rear axle shaft. (I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct this!)
2. For Housing - 96 to 02 for a direct fit (minus the differences with locked/abs/non abs models, but all 4Runner axle housings of those years will physically bolt in. - Then after that it all depends on how much work you want to do with other housings!)
3. Same goes for Complete Rear Axle Assembly (as #2) but you'll need to make sure that the gearing is the same as your front - or swap the front to match the rear!
