I have a 2nd gen runner that I just installed my lift on...the rear is the 2" coil spacer lift and the front is the 1 1/2" balljoint spacer lift...I bought the set from www.4crawler.com. Now, my original idea was to go with 33 x 10.50 (x15) BFG A/T's after installing the lift, but it seems they're a bit of oddball size around here (I'm in Canada)...now they're on back order. I can't wait that long 'cause the tires I have now are pretty ripe. I've considered going with 33 x 12.50 but there's very little backspacing after installing those front bj spacers.
Any ideas on getting those 12.50's to fit without having to grind or cut away any part of the a-arms? 4crawler said something about installing spacers behind my rims or something like that. Is there any other quick remedy?

 

get BFG 33x9.50x15 I got them for $135 a tire just last week and I love them

 

i would wait for the 33x10.5, alot easier to push around. 33x9.5 is a little narrow, but i would take them over the 12.5

 

I agree, wait or find something similar in the narrow size. 12.50 is overkill and a lot heavier for your vehicle/engine. I wouldn't do it.

Doesn't anybody other than BFG make a narrow tire for 15" rims? Or get some take off 16's from a later toyota. They can be had cheap and then you can get 255/85/16's. I've seen sets of 4 rims sell for $100.

 

Yeah, a couple of my buddies just told me the 12.50's aren't a good idea either...to try for some 9.50's if the 10.50's can't be had. Kinda had my heart set on the BFG's though. Are the 9.50's a more common size?

will a chevy 16" rim fit my rig properly?

 

They should work if the bolt holes and back spacing are the same try a test fit first

 

The chevy bolt pattern matches up fine, it's the center bore you need to measure. I tried fitting a chevy wheel as a spare on my Nissan and found the center bore didn't work - - - This was using a factory chevy steel wheel.

After market rims are a different story.

 

a lot of aftermarket rims are available with either a toyota or chevy size center. I've heard of people boring out the center of chevy rims to make them fit. I personally wouldn't do it but I'm sure it can be done.

 

I dunno man I have 32x12.5x15's on my 3.4 Tacoma with a "few" modifications, and it has stock gears and runs 14's in the 1/4 mile...

 

Ummm yeah - a 3.4 in a Tacoma is a WHOLE different world than a 2nd gen 4Runner ... what, 50 more HP and weighs 500 lbs less?

 

I'm just saying that the extra two inches didn't make much difference, also the tires on my truck are about an inch and a half wider than the ones that were on it and it made no difference at all...

 

I've got the Pro Comp xtreme mud terrain 33x12.50 R15's (Mickey T's 33X13.50's pictured) on my 92 4runner and yeah I like em wide. However I would recommend you go with the 10.50's because you will notice a loss in power and mpg's with the wider heavier tires.

Also, you might notice some tire rub in the front while steering hard and flexing the suspension. this depends on how much flexing you will be doing. I have a 3" body lift and stock suspension. I notice a little tire rub but nothing harsh. It rubs on the plastic footboard covers behind the front wheels. Only happens when steering and flexing hard. Another thing is, if mud up the sides of your runner is an issue stay narrow!

 

Thanks guys...you're all very helpful. Unfortunately, I can't find a full set of BFG A/T 33x10.50's around here so I'm just gonna stick with the same size 31's for now. A couple places even told me that BFG is discontinuing their 33x9.50 line too even though I could get the whole set...bummer cause that was my next choice. Just can't take the chance with those though if I need a replacement later on. No problems getting fullout mudders in just about any size I want, but my rig has gotta still be a grocery getter too...mudders are a bit overkill for me and my current rubber is getting dangerously low, so it's gotta be replaced this week. Tire guy's installing my new BFG 31's tonight. Even though I wanted the 33's to begin with, I'm still pretty excited about the new meat...finally gonna bury my buddy, his Pathfinder and his Uniroyal's.

bfg is coming out with the new mudders so they are probably trying to get rid of all the old ones
