3.4 swap and other options.
I have a 3.slow v6 that's on it's way out.. I recently bought the runner and it has 270,000 miles on it and is ticking like a timex. I'll probably drive it until it dies but at this point I'm sort of pricing out a replacement engine and just looking around at what is out there.
My first question I guess is what vehicle are the 3.4's coming from ?
Also would a 3.8 gm motor be usable as I have access to one pretty cheap.
And if there are any Canadians reading this, I'm having a hard time finding a reasoably price replacement engine in Ontario...found a place in Chicago that will ship a rebuilt 3.slow for $1895. but will consider that as a last option.

3.4's come from the newer Taco's and 4runners (on the 4runner its 98-02).
You can get a good 3.4 from people on YT who sell the engines. Shipping would be your biggest concern.
Not sure about you, but when I get my 3.4 (someday...) I will change my t-belt, the thermostat, plugs, wires, and put nothing but synthetics in it. I am hoping it will be the last engine my 4runner ever sees. After that one goes out, time for a new truck lol.
Other options for the swap that I have heard is the MIGHTY ATTRACTIVE Lexus V8!, the Chevy smallblock, or a diesel engine (there is a company that will do it for like $10k...)

I did my swap in Kelowna, BC, with the engine from a 97 Tacoma. You can try D&M Recyclers in BC, as they will ship cross Canada. Last time I checked with them, they had 6 or 7 3.4s. Another option, you might want to try insurance companies and find a written-off 1996 and later Toyota.
Mechanically, the 3.4 will be your easiest option, with little fab work needed. It won't be cheap, however, in the long run. You're better off buying a newer vehicle with the 3.4, unless A) you really want to try your hand at the swap and B) you're slightly insane.
