22re re-build question

I have a 91 toyota pick-up with a 22re. it has 208,000 miles. would it be cheaper to buy a crate motor or just rebuild the old motor??

The question really is, are you going to be doing the work yourself. If you do the work yourself, then rebuild your current motor. If you are paying someone to do it, that one could go either way depending on what you do.

Just plan on a range of $1000 (if you do it your self) to $3500 (if you pay someone to do it).

Based on what I've seen and done....top end (headgasket, all gaskets, new timing chain and cover, new water and oil pump) you do it for about $300......pull the block (i have not done) and replace pistons etc for about same amount more with some extra goodies like machining (I think, but like I said, I have not done the bottom)

i found a engine on craig's List with under 100k. the guy had it list for 300.00 and when i got there he gave me the military discount. 50 bucks off.. gave me all sorts of extra goodies he just wanted to get rid of..

shop around... and do your home work.. it will pay in the long run..

i live in NC and there are quite of whole parts trucks selling from 300-1000 with good running engines.. too..

it just depends on what you want to do..

engnbldr.com
If you do it yourself the cost is right about $229 for the kit to your door with everything you need then you have to factor in the machine shop bill and if your going to rebuild the whole motor well worth it.

Then if you cam it $90 also from engnbldr 268 is great for a dd 261 for off roader
then if you get the head with the oversize valves add another $470 so in reality for under $800 minus shipping you will have a complete rebuld and a good power motor.

I just did mine and have right at 142 H.P. and run 35's with no problem and superbleeder did his close to the same and he get's down the road with 31's I believe either way if you need help there's plenty of here , I did mine and had nothing but this site to use as a manual and never had done one before
