22re exhaust manifold questions
While we're on the subject of exhaust manifolds...
I'm new here and I don't know if the best etiquette would be to start a new thread or piggyback on this one, but it's in a similar vein.
I've got an '86 pickup with a 22RE. The exhaust and exhaust manifold gaskets leak. My mechanic did the exhaust donuts where the Y pipe attaches to the manifold, and said the studs and nuts were stainless, the nuts were a split design that would start to come off and then seize, and the whole thing was no fun. The block/manifold gasket needs to be done too. Is there a good trick to get this (probably factory original) 129k mile hardware loose?

It's always a good idea to start a new thread, after all you are asking the question and you want the responses to you, not someone else. Soak the nuts for the manifold and collector( pipe to mamifold connection ) with PB Blaster or some type of penetrating oil. Let soak overnight. You might end up breaking or pulling a stud. It's ok, just replace it. New hardware is always a good thing.
