Whats the diffrence between the 22R and the 22 RE motors?

 

One is electronic fuel injection, one uses a carburetor.

 

same motor, carb/efi

22R = Carb
22RE = EFI, more power, more reliability

 

wich one is wich?

I don't know man, EFI has more things that can go wrong, wiring and all. EFI has more power and better efficiency.

 

Both have the pros and cons, for me, carbs never wanted to start in the cold, and stalling out on steep hills offroad isn't fun either.

 

I have a firend that had an 84 pu and he says it was a 22r with mechanical fuel injection. How does this sound?

 

EFI started in 85

84 would be 22R carb , mechanical fuel pump maybe?

I like efi better. I always had problems with carbs.

Edit: They are both good engines. And they both will last 400k miles+ if you take care of them.

 

I like the carb for simplicity but I haven't seen my truck run since it got really cold here.

 

22R is carburetor and uses a manual fuel pump
22RE is fuel injected, uses four injectors...
The wiring is different on both:
I used my intake, exaust, off my 22RE (88 model) and put it on the block of the 22R (87 model)

 

The EFI can be more finicky with the vacuum leaks and wiring and whatnot. I'd still rather have EFI than carb, tho.

 

efi all the way better economy more reliable and 9 times out of 10 more powerful and the 22res have different ignition systems too

 

What about a 22RE turbo motor? Was there ever one offered?

 

ive seen a couple customized with a turbo but have yet to c one stock on a 22re but that doesnt mean they dont exist

 

Yes, they made a 22re turbo. They are pretty rare, but there are quite a few members here with them.

 

I got a guy that say's he has a Yota he says is a turbo motor he wants to trade for my Jeep and I was just woundeerin if it was factory.
