so I just pickup a 1981 toyota not to long ago and I've notice when I go up hills on the free way when warm it will start to bog down and sputter, and sometimes it will backfiire. it only stops when I finish going over the hill or pullover and turn off the truck for a couple of mins. I've only had fuel injected motors in the past so I don't know what this could be. is it normal for a carb'd toyota?

it could be anything to a slight long hill to a steep short hill

 

id say the carb not getting fuel at the angle. hopefully some one else will chime in???? not an expert at alll.
