Look into fuel injection conversion kits too.

I have a carb in my 88 2wd...It kicks ass over this 85..I understand it is an xtra cab.with big tires..I put a new shortblock in it...But it still is dreadful power wise...I hope with rebuilt carb and valve ajust it performs better.

Are stock carbs for these yotas weak?...Will an injector conversion, or a weber give me a slight boost in horsepower>??

You said in the first post it needs a rebuilt carb. So...that's your problem. Unless you're just assuming it needs a rebuilt carb because of the stalling issues. As far as carbs go...good luck finding help. If there are experts around here, I have yet to find them. Carbs seem to be the one thing people just can't completely figure out.

If it stalls before it's warm, check the choke, check the fast (cold) idle screw setting. On my 22R, the fuel pump is bolted to the engine, and my experience with those things is that they're either working or not. There isn't a "going out" period. When they're done, they're completely done, and until then they work fine. You can always replace your fuel filter. I'd be really surprised if the issues you're describing are the filter, but if you're getting a rebuilt carb you should definitely have a clean filter before putting it on anyway, so it can't hurt. They're cheap and easy.

Oh, and no, the stock carbs aren't "weak". They're the best thing out there for a Yota, but they're complicated and hard to adjust compared to a Weber. Many people swear by Webers, though.

I'm not sure what years will work with your truck. Get yourself a service manual for trouble shooting this sort of stuff.

Weber would be a lot easier than an efi conversion but the efi would be the way to go imo.

Stock carbs are great if you can get a good one, i have four of them and one thats good, i've rebuilt and tuned them all but three still suck.

I would ditch the stocker

Oh btw, brian2sun said you need a "conversion kit" for the efi... idk what he's talking about, you need no kit. Just find an efi truck and rob the parts off of it, throw them on your truck and wire it up your good to go

its electrical buddy

check your grounds..

and all your connections.

will the starter solenoid click??? or what?

any lights on in the dash when the key is on the "on" position??

mine would crank but not fire..it was the coil/ignitor assembly..

if it wont do NOTHING and there are lights on in the dash then i would assume you have a bad connection somewhere or a fubarred starter bud!

how did it run with the rebuilt carb though?????

Yeah sounds like a wiring issue. We can only diagnose so much from out here in space, you've got to get a manual and trouble shoot.

Yeah i can see how it could be with all the splicing on my wires...I may have to put a wire harness in it ?....I do not want to break down in the middle of nowhere across country...Thanx guys for your feedback.

If not a wiring harness, at least make sure all the connects are good. Not just twisted together with some electrical tape over the ends.
