Question 2011 Tacoma and TRD package?

Hey all,

I did a search and didn't see anything.

I'm going to get a new 2011 sometime next year. Just seeing if anyone has a 2010 or 11 and got the TRD package? Do you think it is worth it?

Looks like a K&N intake, cool cat-back exhaust, and beadlock wheels with BFG's. BFG's I'd get a little more aggresive if bought as add on....

Just wondering if the suspention upgrade is worth all the other stuff.

I have an 89 with 31 Swampers.

This new one will hit the trail's "lightly", until the 10year mark or ?????

Thanks for any input...

Some of the TRD has different suspention, and cat back exhaust, the K&N is one from Toyota.

My main question is for the Toyota owners if they got the TRD package if they are happy and is it worth it? Or should I just get the SR5 package and then upgrade over the years to get it right????

Thanks

From: Bryan Tx,
I very much preffer the looks of the TRD sport, that is why I bough one....with NO intention of wheeling in it. The off road is a better package if you ever plan on getting anywhere off the pavement. Also the Sport models have a new brake operated LSD that is not very impressive to me, I'm glad mine has the older traditional LSD. I would not pay the dealer extra for things like tires, intake or exhaust.

From: Bryan Tx,
I know is sounds hipocritical for me to tell you to get an Off-Road when I have a Sport (and love it) but I knew I wanted a TRD for the seats (the SR5 seats are not near as good) and Bilstien shocks, but the final deciding factor for me was that The Off-Road models are not avaliable in a crew cab long bed which where both must haves for me. Also keep in mind that mine is a pavement pounder only, I have another truck to beat up. I do like the color keyed grill surround and door handles on the Sports.

I'm looking at a double cab long bed. Don't they have the off road package for them? Man still doing alot of research. Thanks for the help.

From: Bryan Tx,
Nope, No double cab long bed TRD Off-road models, only Sport and SR5. Sounds like you need to decided between a e-locker or long bed. I opted for the long bed because you can always add a locker down the road.

IMO, the TRD off road package isn't worth the $4500 it costs, you can get a lot of very nice aftermarket stuff for that. The elocker is nice, but there are aftermarket locker choices like ARB, Aussie, Lockright, Detroit... The suspension is ok (the Bilsteins they use are pretty much their base model shocks). If you plan to off road it, you'll probably want at least a small lift (plus it will look better) and you can get springs and shocks aftermarket for much cheaper. If you put a lift on, you'll probably want 33s so the BFGs that come with it might be a waste too. I think you could get an SR5, put $2500-$3000 into it and have a more capable truck and still save $~2K.

From: Bryan Tx,
What about things like ATRAC and down hill assist? I wheel with mostly second gen tacomas and those guys rave about all of the electronic stuff. I honestly know nothing about them, my Taco is an 05.

I agree with this post, keep your money, put in an ARB with on board air, get the aggressive tires you want, and you'll still have money leftover for whatever is next.

Thanks fine line..... I was thinking the TRD was a little much or???? So if the shocks are just a little upgreade, you are right I can get a K&N + plus exhaust aftermarket... So the locker is one of the main things on TRD?

Thanks for eveyones help....

I had the 2005 TRD Off-Road and hindsight, I probably could have gone a different route because I did not use the extra TRD options enough to justify the extra cost (i.e. I didn't take it off road a whole lot because it was also my daily driver and only vehicle). It is true that you can customize to your taste for much cheaper and make it your own. Resale value will be better on the TRD if you decide to get rid of it some day. And lastly it is correct that you cannot get a long bed with the Off-Road package, just short bed in the crew cab.

Ultimately if you think you will use the extra features in the TRD, go for it. If you are a mod junkie and will just change the truck anyway, save your money for the mods.

Goodluck!
