Couple questions about my 2003 4Runner:

1) Is it difficult to change the brake pads? Anything special required?
ref: I've changed pads many times on my motorcycles, but never on a car. Owners Manual says that some sort of adjustment is required for the rear, after pad change.
2) Is there an On-line parts schematic available, which would show me a exploded view of all the parts on this vehical, with the part numbers listed so that I can re-order them when needed?
3) How do I reset (turn off) the Yellow "Maint" light on the dash, after having done an oil change?
4) Is there an inexpensive Clymer-type Maintenance Manual available? Toyota said that they only know of the offical Toyota Service Manual, which costs about $400!

to reset maintenance light there is a button for trip in instrument cluster, with key off hold that button in and turn key on with engine off for about 15 secs, u might have to try it on all three settings, trip a, trip b, and mileage, certain models are one or the other, but one of them is it, and brakes in front are easy, no special tools required

Rear pads are easy, there is an adjustment tool to adjust the star wheel adjuster but you can use a flat head screw driver with a long flat part. Thats the tool in the link.

I may have been mistaken. Im not 100% sure but im thinking a 2003 4runner would have rear disc brakes? That tool I linked is for drum brakes haha. I can explain a basic walk through of either one so is it discs or drums?

So then, now that I've BOUGHT that special tool... is it the case that I do not need it (or any other special tool) to do the rear Disk Brake adjustment???

 

Are you planning on doing pads and rotors(new everything) or just pads? There shouldnt be any special tool for disc brakes, that special tool is only for drum brakes.
