1gen body swap?

i have a 1985 reg cab longbed pickup with 22re and SFA and a 1987 4runner bone stock nothing done to it. So ive been wanting a 1985 4runner for like 2 years now. So im wondering i can put the 87 4runner body on my 85 pickup frame. and if it wont go right on what is diffrent on the frames and what will it take to do it. any thing you guys can help me with would be greatly apraciated and i will most likely post up a build thread if i do try to do it, but for now im just try en to get some info before i make any rash decisions. thanks

If I am correct the regular cab shortbeds are the same as a 4 runner. Wheel base that is... Everything will be the same exact for the back half of the frame. The 4runner body mounts are different then the pickup mounts. This is only on the back portion of the frame. Everything else is the same.

As I stated, Regular Cab Shortbed.... It may be different but I do believe that correct from my research.

I was referring to body mounts. Sorry bout the confusion there.

All body mounts are the exact same on 84-88 pickups and 84-89 4runners exept for the back half of the mounts.

so just cut off the rear end of the frame to length and weld in a few mounts? and how many mount are on the rear of a 87 runner? Toyota boy thanks for the info man you gave me more confidence to start working on it but i just have a few questions before i go tearing stuff apart.

Have you considered doing a SAS instead. It may cost a little extra but you would have a much better vehicle. The IFS frames are heavier on the front then the SA frame. You'd also achieve a much higher lift depending on springs. High steer and so on.

sas isnt an option i really dont want to mess with it i think it will be easier to just cut the frame and add some mounts.

Now now sassy. Lol... You may wanna do some research prior to cutting the frame. I may have been wrong about that wheel base issue. Your wheel base may be a perfect match. As far as the mounts go all you have to do is cut the front two bed mounts off and replace them with the runner body mounts. Or cut and shorten the truck bed mounts to match the runners. Pretty simple.

Good luck with this.

Hey start a build thread when you do this. I for one would enjoy it as well as several others.
