for starters, im currently stationed in Incirlik turkey, and there is a 87 hilux for sale on base. i dont know the specifics, but i know it has some big tires, a basic roll bar in the bed, RHD, 5 spd, and approx 50-70k on it. the only thing i found wrong with it at a glance was some tears in the seats. it seems in really great condition, with normal old truck look. i was just wondering if there was anything that i should be looking for that could possibly go wrong. i just want to make sure this truck is something i want to look at getting. i know a few things about cars but not trucks, so some tech info would be good. just wanted some info from the veterans!

diesel or gas? diesel! Buy it now! 2 or 4 wheel dr? is it using fluids? Look for antifreeze stains on or near radiator (this might indicate a radiator leak) condition of oil? check the plug condition or compression if you can't do a leak down test. Look for play in steering. are the shocks spongy? Crawl under and look for leaks and the condition (rusry?) of the frame especially the lower control arms. While you are under it look to see if it has been greased recently. Is there a maint. record? good luck, Me

 

manual locking hubs, i believe gasoline, it didnt sound like a diesel. i can take it to the shop on base a for a full, and i mean FULL inspection. i need to take it to england in fall so i need to be able to pass their inspections. i think ill be fine, i have all the confidence in the world of a toyota, especially a Jspec. it seems to run strong. i have yet to even see under the hood but i did get a glance at the underbody, and it looks dusty but not rusty.
