1985 22RE engine/ignition wiring harness wiring help
Hello,
I recently pulled apart my wiring harness because the crimps to the fuel injectors were horribly corroded and not grounding via ECU (which means staying closed and not delivering fuel) and keeping my engine from running.... it will fire one cycle of the cylinders via the cold start injector.
Anyhow, there are a total of NINE plugs that are identical in this harness. FOUR of them are the injector plugs and a previous owner marked them 1-4 with a sharpie so I know where those go. The other FIVE can reach the 5 remaining sockets and I don't know which go to which.
What I do know is the color of the wires to each of these plugs AND the name of the sockets they can possibly go to. ANYONE, please match these up for me. I have checked the wiring diagram and can't seem to find anything that matches.. perhaps I'm looking at it incorrectly.
If you KNOW which goes to which, please use the numbers I have provided to match the numbers provided for the color wires. i.e., #1 (first block) goes to #3 (second block). First block are the plugs, second block are the sockets. Here are the wiring colors and the sockets which need to be matched:
1. White-black stripe and solid Blue
2. Black with white diamonds and Green with white diamonds (There are TWO of these that are identical AND connected to each other in the harness, we will use the #2 for BOTH of these)
3. Solid Black and Black with yellow stripe.
4. Red with black stripe AND blue bands and Green with red bands.
1. Cold Start Injector
2. Fuel pressure regulator VSV (bolts onto the top/back of the valve cover, small electronic component)
3. Thermoswitch (located under the Throttle Position Sensor)
4. EFI coolant temp sensor (also located under the TPS, to the right of the thermoswitch, #3 and #4 are side by side)
5. Back of the idle air control valve (front/bottom of intake manifold)
I am putting the harness back together differently than Toyota did originally because half to the wires in the loom don't need to be routed through the intake manifold. Once I know where these plugs go, I can re-bundle them more efficiently. Thanks!

Here's a picture of all NINE plugs for reference. The red circles are the fuel injector plugs. The black circles are just denoting that these plugs are DARKER in color than the other 2/5 plugs. The blue circles are LIGHTER in color than the other 3/5. They are all the same plug style/form, including the injector plugs making a total of NINE identical plugs. I'm trying to figure out where the other FIVE go... the black and blue circled ones.... Thanks.

Cold Start Injector Timer Switch
According to Aan 85 FSM I saw somewhere, CSI Timer switch should have One Green wire and One Black wire.
That should not have to go through that rabbit hole of a harness run

OK, so after cleaning the plugs so I could have my wife verify the colors (I'm seriously colorblind like a dog) we found that some match! I also saw that there are TINY numbers on these five plugs as well, 1 through 5. Wonder if anyone knows what the numbers mean... explain where they go, etc. I took pictures of the plugs and the five terminals that take these shape plugs, perhaps it will help to find them a home. Enjoy.

One of them should be along same run as the temp sender next to TIMER below thermostat housing that goes to ECU.

Fuel Pressure Up Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV)
This shud hav Blk wire going to EFI relay (12V), other side to FPU pin of ECU. On 1988 its the B-Y wire.

Two birds with one stone my friend. This makes perfect sense and everything matches. The black and brown plug are connected by the black and green wires. The CSI switch has a brown socket. The CSI has a black socket. They are both part of the loom that plugs into all the sockets UNDER the intake manifold like the knock sensor, back up lights, starter, etc so it wouldn't make sense for these two to route through the intake manifold only to come back forward to these sockets. 2 down! 3 to go.
Some more information which may help find the other 3 the correct home....
- The light green plug which has a BLUE wire and a White wire with a black stripe is wired into the ground bundle that bolts to the intake manifold.
- The green plug with the Red with black stripe AND blue bands and Green with red bands ties in with the Throttle Position Sensor wires, perhaps since the TPS is right above the EFI coolant temp sensor, that is where this plug goes... they are two inches apart?
- Another green plug with Black and Black with yellow stripe runs through the entire loom by itself.

Ah, just saw your post RAD after putting up more information.... So, one of the plugs DOES have a black wire and a black with yellow stripe wire as you described in your last post. So that plug is the FPR VSV sounds like. Great! 3 down! 2 to go.

also... just thought of this, but the black and black/yellow wired plug is fairly longer than the other 4. The FPR VSV is proportionally farther away than any of the other 4 sockets... so this adds up as well.

Think I got it. The blue wire and White with black stripe wired plug ties into the manifold grounding bundle, so it can NOT reach the EFI coolant switch... so it must go to the idle air control valve under the intake. Which leaves the last plug's only home as the EFI coolant temp sensor, which is tied into the TPS wiring and they are next to each other... so that works out well.
