unless they want to be jerks like they have been recently and their prices haven't changed:

The only hangups i found is if you have the moog idler arm the brace from downey or NWOR will not bolt up due to the differences in design. If you can't find the brace online at NWOR call them to see if they still have it.

yeah a buddy has donated over 90 dollars to NW and still hasnt gotten his parts.

i wish wabbit would.

the other options are the TC 300+
or the moog 180+ and still needs brass bushings and a brace.

if you can fab it ill buy it. or give me dimensions so i can build my own. it sucks since downey went under... dang it all

I wonder if the old downey members would give wabbit the plans for them and let him reproduce them. I wish I knew how to weld, this would be a great first project for me.

I would assume yes, but there is also a difference in the 4wd 87 and a 95. not sure where the cutoff to the FA5040 (95 style) arm was.

2WD

4WD

As far as braces/trusses, there are none for 2WD and all the 86-95 4WD are the same. 86-88 4WD have a smaller shaft than 89-95 4WD, thus have different sized bushings. The dimensions are otherwise identical for the 86-95 4WD idler arms.

thanks for the clarification MudHippy. I thought it was the 89-95 that was different but wasn't sure. But yes, they are 100% direct swap 4WD 86-95.

I do remember however someone somewhere that if you have the MOOG idler arm that the DOWNEY???? brace won't work on it. Not sure about the NWOR fitment on it though.

Ah yes, the infamous Moog idler arm. Never seen a brace/truss for that one. I can't even imagine what that would look like, or if it would even be possible. Seems to me like a brace/truss would hinder it's steering ability if not cleverly designed. There's not much clearance behind that shaft and the housing.

BTW, MudHippy makes the best 4WD idler arm brace/truss NOT on the market(not yet atleast). He uses 1/4" plate, a step up from the competitor's which are made from 3/16". Those have been known to bend when encountering extreme offroad abuse, mine's never experienced that problem even during the harshest of treatment.

haha ghetto fab at it's finest, more proof to say it doesn't matter how something looks as long as it performs well.

No can do. Don't have any 1/4" plate laying around at present. And if I make you one then I've gotta make one for everybody else. One of these days I might get around to it. They'd be pretty cheap, less than $50 for sure. That one was almost free(hacked up an old chromed rear bumper with a trailer hitch center I found in the ditch). I think I paid ~$1 for the grade 8 bolts. It was pre-bent at the top(which would've been a PITA had it not been). So I just had to cut it out, drill some holes, and whack a little bend on the bottom part to make that little tab.

I'm still pretty proud of it. Works great! And for a while there if you googled "Toyota idler arm brace", those pics were at the top of the pile. Now they're on the 6th row(version 1.0) and below(version 1.5, which was a faulty redesign, later went back to vers. 1.0 after bending the end of the arm back into place ).

Feel free to borrow my design and make your own. I'd be honored. Imitation is the highest form of flattery ya know?
