79-83 RARE parts thread ...

I keep getting this photo from part pullers from different places, but it is always on the same blanket. I know I am grieving right now but not totally lost my mind. Thanks for replying I appreciate your time.

Well, they don't say but they are different people listing this same radio. One person said that it was there craigslist posting, others are salvage yards and they are speaking broken English. I think it is a scam.

i will keep an eye out we are in the same area I saw your ad on Fb or craiglist, i cant remember which one

Looking for a black or brown sr5 shift knob in good or decent condition for my 83. Cant seem to find one anywhere . Let me know if anyone has a spare they would be willing to sale.
Do you guys also happen to know what if the little mirrors range to a certain year that will fit on the truck? Don't really care for the big barn mirrors.

Thank you for the offer. Not sure of that yet, he is taking it slow and easy, lots of emotions going on. I do know he needs the little cubby that goes above the radio. I don't know if it a single piece, or if it comes with a unit. Maybe someone knows on this site.

The cubby is it's own piece on the 82 and 83 trucks (79 - 81 it is part of the whole dash bezel). While I don't think I have a spare cubby, I do have a working original Toyota digital clock that was also made to fit in that space. He's welcome to have it if interested. Also, just in case you haven't tried this yet, using the save search function on ebay with email alerts is really helpful when looking for rare parts. Saves you the trouble of having to look everyday. I'm very sorry for the loss. I lost my dad a few years ago. My heart goes out to y'all.

First thank you for the great advice on Ebay! The clock sounds great, would it be to much trouble to get a picture of the clock?
How would you hook up the clock if the original radio harness was not set up for a clock?
I also appreciate your kind words, thank you.

No problem! I'll see if I can get a picture of the clock for you tomorrow. My truck had the plug there as part of the wiring harness. I'm not sure whether or not it would be there on trucks that didn't come with the clock but I imagine it is likely. Lots of times the plugs are there even if that particular option wasn't installed on the truck at the factory.

Janet,
I'm sorry but something came up and I wasn't able to get pictures of the clock today. I should be back out there (my parts are stored elsewhere) later this week and will take some pictures for you.

Janet,
Sorry it took me so long, but I finally found the clock and took some pictures for you.
The plug very possibly already exists somewhere behind the dash bezel. If he wants the clock just let me know. Hope y'all are well.

Also, as to the radio question (not sure why I didn't think of this before), if he isn't set on having an original radio and just one that fits, there are a definitely more options out there for aftermarket ones. The following is a picture of mine that I bought on ebay.
You would be looking for a "shaft style car radio". Many of them have adjustable shaft spacing to accommodate different dash bezels. Measure carefully and make sure that not only will the shaft spacing work but also that the center rectangle section will fit nicely. The tricky part is then you need to wire up the plugs to make them work. I opted to have a professional do that part for me. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. He really wants a stock radio, but he may change his mind as they are very difficult to find.
Regarding the radio. He would really like it. How much do you want for it and how do I pay for it?
Thanks again for taking the pictures,
Janet
