Piaa install on 4th Gen.

Has anyone here done a Piaa install on a 4th gen. 4runner?
I have a push bar on mine, and I have just mounted the Piaa's on it and now am diving into the wire install.
When I look at the diagram everything is straight forward, however the + wire coming from the switch (to turn the switch on and off) it is a little difficult to tell where I should tap into. Now Ive read several instances where people are hooking it up straight to the battery, with sacraficing a possible battery power loss. Then there are those who say to tap into the parking lights, which will then sacrafice an overall drop in current.
Any thoughts?
If the parking lights are a go, then where do you tap into it? Right up in the corner onsite? Or do you go to the fuse box and try it there?
Any help would be appreciated.

Just finished the install of 4 520's and 4 510's. The single wire for the switch coming from the relay I ran through the fire wall and tapped into the defroster line. I tried hooking it up to the fog light fuse in fuse box in the engine compartment but that fuse box is under constant power. So I now have it that the lights will only go on when the key goes to ACC.

I hope that's not to confusing.

wire that switch straight to the battery with an inline fuse. that will give you complete control of when they are able to be turned on. there will be no battery power loss.

I think you will get a battery loss if we're all talking about the same switch. Because the LED on the switch will be on all the time.

If he leaves the fog lights on and leaves the car, the lights will stay on and drain the battery. I think he wants to avoid accidentally doing that.

It's been a while since I wired the fog lights, but I tapped into the parking light. I think it was a green wire with a yellow or white stripe. Use a multimeter to see which one is "hot" when the parking light comes on...

If you go straight to the battery with the switch line, then your only concern is leaving them on during the day, when you can not notice it. The LED on the switch will shine, but that is it. No busers or anything.

If you splice into the parking light (Highly recomend, mine are) then the light will only come on when the parking lights are on, so you'll ahve the warning if you leave them on. The amount of current coming fromt here is not strong at all. It is just enough to trip the relay. All the juice for the lights is coming from the other posit. wire that you mounted to the battery.


So, splice into the parking light, it's the safest way to do it.

I have a set of piaa's on my bull bar also and have tapped into parking lights but was wondering if anyone knows of a remote control switch unit that will work with the piaa's. I know piaa made one awhile back but have not seen it around anymore. Is there a universial kit?

Ok, so it sounds like the parking light wins over straight to the battery. However, when I look into the engine bay and see the parking lights I would assume Id tap into it at that point?

So here is another option that I have just read from another thread. A Fuse Tap is what other people are doing. Going straight to the fuse box, and tapping in to it at that point and running it to the switch.
Any reasons why this wouldnt work?
