I have never purchased a new truck in my life.

I have never owned anything newer than a 1990.

Never wanted to, never needed to.

That being said, I am beginning to seriously look at a new truck.

I am impressed by the looks of the '05+ Tacoma x-runner, as well as the 6-speed manual coupled with the 4.0L and a factory limited slip. However, the main reason I am buying a truck is to build my credit. So, I figure why not have a HELL of a screaming good and functional time while doing it!

So, a few questions.

A. Does anyone own one of these, and if so, your experiences both negative and positive
B. What should I be looking out for? Good options, bad options, waste of money options?
C. Do they make a supercharger for the 4.0l yet, and if so, is it worth the $$$ they will want?

If i purchase this truck, I will only make a few mods. Exhaust, SC, and possibly rims/tires. Thats it, as I feel Toyota has such a high quality product, there is no need to mess with anything else. I am not really looking for a "OO OO do this to the truck" thread, I merely want suggestions and opinions on the truck itself. I have no interest in Toyotas new fancy IFS and push button tcase, or any of that nonsense. I do not want nor do I need a 4x4. I have 2 4Runners that are more than capable of feeding my offroad needs.

There are many easier and cheaper ways to build your credit that don't include buying a car. Have credit cards in your name, pay them off every month and don't carry large balances. Contrary to popular belief, multiple credit cards can help build credit as long as they are used properly. Have utility bills in your name and pay them on time. Have a checking and savings account (you'd be suprised the number of people that don't have one or either).

A vehicle is a depreciating asset. You'll be paying the interest on the loan that you get to buy this vehicle and higher insuarance payments.

If all you want is a new vehicle, then by all means get it but establishing credit should not be your main rational.

Have you had a credit report done on yourself? It's a good start to finding out your credit score, where you are floundering and where you are doing well when it comes to your credit. It can be an eye opening experience. Credit is easier to establish and maintain, than it is to correct when it's bad.

 

The credit comment caught my eye too. X2 on Sharp4runr's post. My credit score is above 700 and (probably because) I've never bought a brand new vehicle.

The only advice I can give is to check over on toyotanation and customtaco forums. There's a few share of x-runner owners over there.

 

I second the advice offered about not using a vehicle purchase to establish your credit, however if you do it, have a healthy down payment. I would recommend a Visa or Sears credit card with a low limit ($1000 or less) for establishing credit, make your payments on time and if possible pay off the balance monthly.

Good luck, the X-Runner does seem like a cool truck to own. Personally out of the 5 Toyotas and one Ford Ranger ( it was a POS) Trucks I have never owned a 2WD.

That would be sick to get. what did you want to do with it? tow rig possibly? I was thinking of getting a iforce tundra someday for my tow rig. I think that the newer tacomas can look real sick but when left stock i think thay are real ugly IMO. I just looked on TRD's site as into the supercharger and didnt see anything but that doesnt mean they dont make it. I would guess it would be well over 3k new for that alone.

Definetly get the 6speed that would be cool. My freind drove his moms 05 or 06 tacoma all the time with the auto and he absolutly loved it i could amagine the manual being a screaming good/functional time lol go take one out for a test drive and let us know what you think, and when you buy cause its awesome let us know when the SAS is next haha jk

 

The x-runner is only available with the 6-speed. Not using for a tow rig, since its lowered. I found the superchager for it...$4000. I think ill pass for now lol.

Btw, why would I SAS a 2wd sport truck?

Buying a new truck to build credit = major ass reaming on interest.

 

I am in the mortgage business and I have helped numerous people build their credit back up. Fix your credit then buy a new car it will be cheaper in the long run. Use a good local credit repair company not Consumer credit counseling services. The xrunner is a nice rig I almost bought one myself but wanted a 4wd truck.
