Angry lift - alignment issues

I have a major problem. I have a 06 sport 4x4 4Runner. It has 3" Cornfed spacer lift and 285x70x17. Today I went to get it aligment. After 2 and 1/2 hours the shop could NOT get it align correctly. I did search but I still don't understand the defination and what I should tell the mechanic to correct the problem.

Here is the result of the alignment:

Camber
- Left Front = 0.9 degreee
- Right Front = 1.5 degree

Caster
- Left Front = 2.9 degree
- Right Front = 3.0 degree

The shop couldn't reduce the Right Front Camber less than 1.5 and the Right Front Caster more than 3.0. With the current measurement, the outside of my front right tire will wear out very fast. After 10 miles, I noted the wear very bad. The mechanic told me that if he fix the tire wear the caster will reduce which make the car very unstable.

Another problem. After I installed 285x70x17, the A-arm was so close to the tire. It's about 1/16" close to the tires. Does anyone have this problem? Is it too dangerous to drive around with the A-arm too close to the tires? What can I do to resolve this problem?

Sorry for the long question. I really need help fast because I afraid to drive it. Thank you very much for your advice.

If your current mechanic is unable to align the tires correctly, take it elsewhere. Many have had this exact problem and taking it to a more qualified mechanic usually resolved the problem.

The a-arm you describe sounds like you're using your stock wheels. If you are, you have a few options:
1. buy some aftermarket upper control arms (total chaos, camburg, donahoe racing)
2. shave your upper control arms and reinforce it (cutting/welding required)
3. get aftermarket wheels with better backspacing and offset.

Good luck

Thank GoodTime for answer my question. Yes, I am using stock wheels. I am thinking about Total Chaos A-Arm. How much (approximately) do they cost? Regarding the alignment, it is fixable and mechanic will be able to adjust it to spec. Is it correct? I will take it to him again. I will take this thread to him and see that it help.

Don't take it to the same guy. If he can't get it aligned properly, try somewhere else. I know many people who have had problems, and when taking it somewhere else, the mechanic got it spot on the first try.

aftermarket UCA's will set you back around $500.

Can I use the wheel spacers to move the wheel out a bit? Does it work? What is the fall back of using the spacers?

Thanks,
Tyler

Wheel spacers is another viable option (forgot about that one). I'm not too fond of wheel spacers but there are many members here that use them with no ill effect.

Do a quick search on "wheel spacers" and see what comes up.

Good luck

FYI:

Most alignment shops are run by total schmucks. I have had nothing but problems with the majore chains, Firestone being about the worst. I found a non chain, local guy, and he does them with no problem.

Bottom line, get another opinion, preferably from a non chain place.

Yeah, try showing up at any alignment shop with an LT kit. that always screws em' up. Once you find a good alignment shop, you'll be stoked. Thier out there. I found one in San Marcos, they even know how to work on the LT stuff.
