How much lift?

(posted this on T4R.org earlier but haven't got a response yet)

How much lift for 275's. I know 285's require some trimming/mudflap removal/etc even with a 3/2" lift. I have 265/70/17 Revo's now but will be looking to go to 275's (probably Firestone A/T) later this year. I have XREAS, so will probably do the Cornfed lift.

Will 275's fit (without rubbing and without trimming) with stock suspension (doubtful)? 1" front only? 2/1" lift? 3/2" lift?

Please post pics with 265's and 275's with lift. If I stick with 265's, I will still probably do a small lift (at least in the front).

Thanks

ps - my first post, looks like a good forum. I spend a lot of time on the Rubicon forum. This is our other rig:

Welcome aboard!

FYI there's faq that has all of this info:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f117/modifications-accessories-faq-4th-gen-4runner-95442/

275/70/17 :: No rubbing (requires basic lift - 2.5" ~ 3" suspension lift, stock wheel or aftermarket wheel)
enjoy!

edit: sample photos on that link too in various configurations.

Thanks Good Times! I did read that post before but didn't see any 275 "test cases". Can you direct me to a pic/post with 275's installed? I'd like to do the minimum lift required to fit 275's. Would 2" front/1" rear suffice?

Thanks

Yup, I have run the 275 MTR's with the Daystar spacer lift (2.5") and little to no rubbing. To some extent it's what your settings are in suspension alignment that may affect rubbing. I have heard a few people get minor rubbing with 275's but nothing to worry about. You don't really need to even worry about the little plastic triangles on the front of the fender liners with 275's. Only in reverse on one side at full lock did I get any rubbing on the inside of the frame rail.

Good thing about 275's are they don't affect gearing too much at all and fit on stock wheels.

Now that I have the OME and BL, I'll be going for bigger wheels and 305's sooner (or later).

Do you think the 275's would fit with less than 2.5" of lift? It seems like most of the rubbing issues come from the backspacing of the stock wheels and/or the width (not height) of the wheelwells?

Trying to do a smaller lift to keep the wife happy. Definitely want to lose some of the rake though.

The rubbing issues I see with 275's are mainly the front triangles and the mudflaps and mostly only max flex.

Most people cut off the triangles and its easy to remove the mudflaps.

The overall height of the tire will still be an issue here. Maybe a 2" lift you might be ok, but can't say for sure because have not done it.

Also worth checking the sizing of the tires Firestone vs MTR's because 275 is not 275 on all tire brands. They even vary within a single brand from what I've read. The AT might not be as tall as the MTR - not sure.

BTW - my wife didn't even notice the 2.5 lift until I mentioned it to her weeks later.

Go with what makes you happy otherwise you'll just be pissed off later that you didn't get what you wanted.

Thanks Expat! I am just doing this simple lift and A/T's for now. I drive the Jeep and the wife drives the 4Runner. But once they are paid off, she will get a 4-cyl car. I will then have the 4Runner to play with and use as a tow rig too. Then I will really begin the mods!

Thats funny, my wife loves her 1" level kit, she says all the other 4th gens look funny. My mom couldnt ever figure out why ours looked "bigger" until I told her. Now she wants me to do it to her 04, and my sis just bought a 07... guess I may be installing some more this coming summer
