DRL's on 4th gen 4Runners

Do all 4th gen Runners use the front turn signals lights for DRls. I'm thinking of trying to convert my 01 to use them instead of the headlights and need to get some 4th gen wiring diagrams, but I'd like to know which years I need to look at.

The SR5 does not have DRL. Sports Edition and I think Limited does.

They all have DRL up here in the Great White North, I just wasn't sure if some years used the headlights. Never looked very closely at 4th gens, so I don't know which years the ones I see on the road are.

Time to look at the wiring diagrams for the 03-05 and see if I can do this. Hopefully it'll make my headlights last longer.

Better check with your local inspector.
I think you will find that DRLs have to be headlights (foglights are legal too) but the turn signals (or park lights) are not legal DRLs.
Some vehicles have the park lights on anytime the engine is running, but that does not qualify as DRLs in areas where they are required.
(I used to import vehicles into BC, and had to retrofit DRLs among other things then have them inspected, and I am currently partially responsible for US Federal compliance for my company.)

From what I can understand of the regulations it's allowed. This is from the BC regs:

4.08 A motor vehicle may be equipped with daytime running lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle at a height of not less than 30 cm and not more than 2.11 m, that comply with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada).

And from the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada)

45) A daytime running lamp shall be white, yellow or white to yellow, in accordance with sections 3.1.3, 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.1, respectively, of SAE Standard J578, Color Specification (May 1988).

(47.2) A daytime running lamp that is optically combined with a front turn signal lamp or a parking lamp shall conform to subsection (47).

56) A daytime running lamp that is optically combined with a turn signal lamp shall switch off while the turn signal lamp is switched on as a turn signal or hazard warning signal.

It's the section 56 part that I'm having trouble with.
