20 inchers on a 05 4runner?

Thinking of putting some 20 inch wheels on my 05 4runner. Anyone with a 03 - 05 do this? Still want to take it off-road. Just thinking about it at this time. Looking for some input, pros/cons, opinions, what do you think?

20" wheels have no place off-road. Huge, heavy wheel decreases braking and greatly reduces sidewall. BAd idea. 35k truck w/ 2k plus wheels off road
sorry, just my opinion

Yeah those sidewalls will be tiny, you will get a flat or bend a rim in about 2 seconds if your gonna put 20" wheels on and take it in the dirt.

Unless... your running say, 52" Michelins.

haha pay over a grand for shiny, pretty new street queen wheels and see what happens when you take them offroad. 20" wheels and offroad driving seems almost like an oxymoron, don't you think?

I've seen a runner with 22" wheels ... the owner even said he wouldn't want to offroad with them.

Plus, looks pretty bad. They'll be incredibly heavy, especially with any kind of decent off-road tire, and you'll have all sorts of problems off-road with the tiny sidewalls.

You seriously can't go bigger than "17 wheels if you want to do any kind of off roading, gravle roads included. You just won't have enough air between you and the potholes. Get some nice wheels but don't go overkill on the diameter. The will really ride rough.

not all 4th gen. 4Runners are minivans, Brian! FirstToy and Good Times and bulldog-yota are good examples of that. (I mean their rigs are)

with 20's, a railroad crossing is "offroad"- seriously. There is a black 4th gen from NYC w/ chrome 20's. Looked nice, he doesn't post much here tho.

"Let he who hath no sin cast the first stone." Do what makes you happy. That said, stay on-road if you go with the 20"'s.

Yeah, I guess it's not the best idea. I like the bigger rims but the small sidewalls and rocks just wouldn't be a good mix. I definitely want to be able to take it off-road.
Thanks for the input and giving me a good slap.

...but also with others that suggest they don't go together well. Get a black Escalade if you want 20+ " I reckon.

You guys realize that competition rock crawlers run 20" beadlocked wheels right? They also run 40"+ tires...but still.

For the price of the 20"s and new rubber, you can get a great 3" suspension lift and 265/70/17 tires (or the equivalent diameter if you have the stock 16"'s). Your runner will look awesome, and will be very capable offroad, which is a good thing as you are in CO.

it's the proportion of tire-to-wheel that makes the difference in that case, Ryan.

one of the offroad mags i buy (ill try to find it to say which) had an article a few months ago asking... is there a difference in taking a truck with 20's offroad versus one with 15's?

the answer was... yes, but only slightly. they said its more dependent on the tire you get. the 20's will perform just fine, but if youre thinking bling, it makes no sense.

so long story short... they say the 20's are unneccessarily more expensive, but will do fine.
