With 20's, you could always lift it, BL and susp, optionally break out the sawzall and throw some 35's on there.

Seriously, if you plan on wheeling it, you will need rubber as everyone else has said.

BTW: Didn't Billy from NE have 22's and 35's? (Save the N.E. rants for another thread)

Around here you see 20+" rims on jalopies worth maybe $500, driven by a punk or a kid...usually both. I guess I'm just a troll.

You definitely need rubber here, very rocky. When you go off-roading here your tire sidewalls get marked up. I would hate to spend a fortune on wheels and get the rims all marked and scratched after one outing.

I just got back from arizona and the trendy thing in Yuma seemed to be SUVs with big a$$ rims and m/ts. Looks rediculous IMO. Either keep it street or keep it mean but not both.

 

Or head over to T4R.ORG they love the 20" look over there.

Peterson's 4Wheel- they compared 20's to 16's and the whole article was about how 20's are a poor off road choice.
Just weight alone is enough to say it's not a good choice. 77.6 lbs for the 16's, 94 lbs for the 20's. That's a whole lotta wear and tear on your suspension and brakes.

The last sentence in the article;
"So even though Snoop Dogg... mayb think we look "dope" with our blingin dubs, we believe that if wheelin' is your sport, 20's aint the thing."

 

Yeah, Anthony had 22s with 37" tires ... even then he said he missed off-roading because he didn't want to take the 22s out. He called it his "street queen" ... and always said if he was going to do it over again, he'd have gone with 16s or 17s for off-roading.

There, Doug, how is that for not bashing NE?

Anyway, I don't want to post anymore links, but you can do a search for "22s" and come up with all the above threads and more. Personally, I think 20+" wheels on a 4Runner looks really sad.

 

Scratching up wheels comes with the territory when off roading. Don't get anything you don't mind abusing.

That 4th Gen on 22's is a posing street queen with an unsafe lift.

Good call Rock, I haven't seen the posts about him wanting to revert back to a smaller wheel. I'm sure it will help persuade those thinking of going to dubs from doing it if they want to wheel it.

My reference for not bashing NE was only to keep this thread on topic, cuz I sure couldn't give a ratz tailend otherwise.

hopefully 00328 has made up his mind to keep with the 16s/17s. and honestly, i wouldn't have even been comfortable off-roading with those 35s i had ... they were just sooooo heavy, i was afraid that any downtravel action would continue into an eternal droop all the way to the other side of the earth .. taking all the suspension and front end with it!

(however, Doug, i know you're planning on a lot of work and upgrades, so i'm certain you could make the 35s+ work despite their weight.)
