Is this the wrong headgasket?

Hey everybody I was just about to put my heads back on and noticed somthing fishy about the headgasket I am using. It is a Toyota one and when I lay it on the motor it does not have all of the holes for the water ports. This does not seem right at all. Here are some pics so you can see what I am talking about.

Another:

on engine

This side goes against the motor, I thought It would on top but guess not.

Looking at my old head gaskets, they are the same as the new ones. Hmm. it just does not make since to me that they would block water ports. Any input?

Sure you got them on the right sides? R=passenger side, L=driver's side

Looks good to me. The white stuff goes to the block. I dont get the water thing either.

I got a gasket kit from ITM and the HGs were backwards, white stuff up, so I got a ROCK/Felpro head gasket.

That is what I thought to but if I put the white stuff to the block then the Right gasket will be on the drivers side and the Left will be on the passenger side. Damnit this is confusing.

Disregard my last post, thanks for clearing up that the white side goes on the bottom. Much appreciated.

Do they match the head? That is what really matters. If the coolant ports in the head match the gasket, you are good to go. If not, then it is a good question as to why they do not match.

In the pictures you can tell that there are less holes on the gasket right around all of the cylinders. I do not know why this is. I did a little research and found out that some head gaskets are like this. This is a Toyota Head gasket so you would think it would have the same amount of ports as the head and block have. This gasket was the same as the one I took off of the car and it was running fine so I guess it works. I almost got it all back together a couple more lines, the belts, ps pump, and this baby will be running, hofally by tom. early evening. Good night all.

Just ordered a set for my '95. Got them out to compare. Yours are identical to mine.

I remember something like this with my FJ40 many years ago. The comment to compare it to the head is right on as I remember.

Could be a water circulation/ pressure thing?

If all the ports were open would it flow or just fill up??
