Coolant in my 3VZE

Over at Toyota Nation there's a big post part of which says that the green coolant should not be used, because it contains silicates. Right on the bottles of green stuff, however, it says silicate free. I've got the green stuff in my truck right now, and it looks fairly clean, but I'm wondering if I need to flush it out and replace with something else. At TN they mention the "red toyota coolant". I've never seen this stuff anywhere. Can someone fill me in?

I don't know the details but I've been running green antifreeze for 25000 miles or so now with no problems.

I've used the green Prestone for 25 years and have never had a problem. I change it about every three years and never see any rust or corrosion.

yeah you can... lol!

Toyota red coolant is available at any toyota dealership. Its un mixed so you get double the amount you buy. the costs vs normal coolant are pretty minuscule.

I saw the the other thread about the 3vze stating that we had to use the red coolant and went and asked one of my friends which is a head mechanic over at toyota and he verified the same thing that the green coolant will cause the system to rust quicker and make sure to use distilled water with your 50/50 mix. I guess you learn something new all the time!

IMHO, flushing the green stuff every couple of years is WAY easier than dealing with the issues I've had with extended life (Dexcool) in my Impala.

If you are using anything other than the green, you MUST MUST MUST use distilled water! (you should use it with the green also, but you can get away with regular water for short periods)

Personally, I don't trust the "mix with any color" stuff. Match what you've got. If Toyota red is in there, use that, if green is in there, use that and flush it every couple years.

I have always used the green (for all models) coolant & never had any issues. I use 50% coolant / 50% distilled water. I'm not making a trip to the stealership for some red coolant.
