I'm not familiar with the 3.0 liter engines and maybe some one else can verify whether this may be a problem, but on the 22re before mid 89 they had low impedence injectors and they had a resistor pack wired into the harness, after that Toyota went to high impedence injectors, with out a resistor pack. This is a problem with mating an pre 89 engine with a post 89 harness on a 22re, you either have to wire in an resistor pack and change your injector electrical connectors or go to newer injectors. This may not be the case with the 3.0, but you need to find out for sure from someone who knows about these engines.

As a footnote I tried searching for the info above, couldn't find anything conclusive. There are some references on this forum to a internet listing of Toyota injectors and this states that all 3vz-e injectors are low impedence 1.7 ohms, brown top, 200cc/min with a type "E" connector. Postings from 3vz-e owners state that this incorrect and that these injectors are high impedence 13.8 ohms. If this is the case they are probably the same injector as a Camry 3vz-fe, high impedence 13.8 ohms, brown top, 200 cc/min type "F" connector.
Nissan came out with a v6 in it's trucks before Toyota. Word is that in order to compete against Nissan's v6, Toyota turbocharged the 22re (became the 22rte) between 86 and 88 to accomplish this. The 3vz-e became an engine option sometime in the 88. Your 88 was the first year of this engine, so I checked injector part #'s on Rock Auto .com. The injector part #'s for 89-95 3vz-e are the same, for an 88 3vz-e they are different. This seems to follow the 22re and it looks like that sometime during the 89 model year Toyota went from low impedence injectors to high impedence injectors in the 3vz-e too.
