I'm working on some driving lights and I've never used a relay before..
This is what i scribbled up..



The lights came with a harness that is going to be no use to me but what I guess i really don't understand is why there is a ground coming from the toggle. Why couldn't I just use a SPDT one end to ACC and the other going to the relay. what is the ground even grounding there?

 

Do a google search for wiring offroad lights, you will find lots of information.

 

I have been searching but i cant really ask google a questions like "why is there a ground coming from the switch"

 

I can`t answer your question about the ground on the switch, but why can`t you use the wiring harness that came with the lights ?.

 

ok imma just try this, ok so you have a positive wire from the batter to the switch, then a neutral wire imma say that goes from the middle of the relay to the lights, THEN at the lights theres a negative wire that needs grounded near by the lights. ok so there should be a wire that goes from the relay to the lights which the lights connect to obvoisouly. then from the relay should be another ground. and ... it shoulddd be positive wire first on relay, then the wire that goes to the lights, then the ground wire. i hope that helps.

You got everything right except the one post on the switch.

You have Ground, ACC (to your relay) And source (To battery for switch light). Make sure the source wire is fused..

 

yep what jay351 said... to ACC should run to another fuse and then to the batter if you want the lights to work all the time.

I highly recomend you find one of these at your local napa. http://www.amazon.com/BUSS-ATC-FUSE-.../dp/B000UKH0RQ they are usually cheaper than what amazon wants... mount it to the firewall under the hood, wire that up with a 50a fuse used for car auto to the battery and you'll be able to run all your accessories with easy wireing

 

looks fine just don't hook up that ground or you will blow your ACC fuse when you turn the lights off.

 

I ran my fog light according to this diagram ,using a Bosch relay .

That is likely for the internal light in the switch, assuming you have a lighted switch.

 

Awesome that is what I had in my head. Looking at other diagrams had me confused

i just wired up some lights with a switch. My switch needed a ground cause it is lighted. if you don't hook it up your switch won't light up.

I did exactly like your diagram but with the extra ground off the switch. Everything works great.
