Why is my engine revving up and down at idle?

You should be able to just adjust the TPS. New ones ain't really cheap. What brand of o2 sensor did you buy? Some guys report issues with Bosch. Another could be the coolant temp sensor, tells the truck it's warmed up or not. If for some reason your throttle plate is not closing fully, it could be an issue. Check the intake tube as well. They can suck after all those years. That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Ok today the TPS I ordered arrived. Before I installed it I wanted to research on here beforehand.Apparently its not as simple as remove and replace?I need an Ohm meter and feeler gauges?Im no moron,or maybe I am but when I have to use an Ohm meter my eyes start glazing over and I start drooling. Is there an easy way to do this.I did the head gaskets, swapped axles, built and replaced leafs, bed swap, custom hood scoop and not once needed an Ohm meter.I have one I just dont know what the H E double hockey sticks to do with it besides test batteries, and thats a stretch. And I have another head gasket project looming,I have oil in my coolant.Brown sludgy stuff all over radiator cap and filler hole.Engine oil is clean though.Weird.

Hey I'm not the sharpest tack when it comes to ohmmeters either. But it really just inserting feeler gauges in the right spot making sure ohms are right by rotating TPS on TB, then removing feeler gauges and ensuring that you have an open/closed circuit when you should. Takes about five minutes when it's off the truck. Read thru here. Breaks it down and has a little intro to the ohmmeter for us non-electricians.

Describe a little better what it does??
Now my truck will idle up and down as the AC compressor kicks in when the defrosters and blower motor is turned on.
Could it be this ?? Up when the compressor pulls in comes down when it goes off.
Or is it like some one is just stomping on the throttle ?/
Just how much of a difference in rpm??

idles up and down when my AC is on goes from 800 RPM to 1200 RPM every 30 seconds it will go to 1200 and maybe a minute or two it will drop back down to 800

You are hitting ecu fuel cut from too high of idle speed with ac on.
Cheap quick solution; You can adjust the ac idle up valve by tightening the screw on top of it and lowering ac idle speed.
As as to why it suddenly has higher idle speed with the ac on?
I’d suspect a vacuum leak that is exacerbated by the extra load on the engine from the ac, multiplied by the controlled vacuum leak made by the ac idle up valve.
Google search 22re ac idle up valve.

Yep, idle could be set too high.

When I had this issue I chased it for a while including a new TPS that I adjusted on the throttle body off the truck, kept happening until I adjusted the idle screw in the throttle body down. It Idles smoothly now, a little high at 1100 but it's been working well for months now.

Yes, simple things first. My truck did same when stopping at off-ramp with AC on. Lowered idle using proper Actron tachometer. Fixed it right away.
