I am wrapping up a head gasket repair on my 91 Toyota pickup (2.4L 4x2) and came across this little brown electrical connector in the very back behind the head. It looks like it has some yellow sealant on it. Does anyone know what this connector is and where it might go? I cannot see a mate for it.

It is not the temp sensor connector that is attached to the intake because I already plugged in that connector.

I appreciate any thoughts. Will try to send picture later.

I cant see the connector completely but one of the brown connectors goes to the starter. It will have a squeeze tab.

I felt around the starter but did not find where it would plug in. Didn't have a lot of time so will revisit this. I have a leak to fix because I forgot to tighten the bolts that hold the coolant pipe underneath the intake. Pain in the butt because I can't get to the nuts with the wrench I have to may have to connect a pipe and see if I can reach them. Not sure if they are 10 mm or 12 mm nuts.

It can go to your starter, yes, but it also looks like it can go to the oil pressure sender. If you have an oil pressure gauge, you will have the big sender on the side of the block. There is a rubber boot that protects it and a single wire that runs through the boot to the sender itself. The connector you're wondering about may plug into the back of the single wire running to the sender.

 

Sorry off topic but does anyone know what tool can be used to tighten the two 10mm nuts that hold the coolant pipe under the intake? My wrenches are too short so thinking about taping a pipe and see if I can reach but was wondering what other folks have used. Go from the top or crawl underneath? Hate to remove the EFI stuff again. PITA

 

I have used a 1/4 socket, cant remember if I used extension or not. It is a total pain in the rear to get to. If you have to take some of the EFI stuff of, make sure you have a good o-ring on. I also put a thin coat of sealant on the flange. Anything I can do to make sure it does not leak.

 

Thanks guys! I got the 2 nuts tightened on the coolant pipe. Squash my hands to get at it from the top and use a 1/4 socket on it. I also plugged the brown connector into the starter. It didn't click or go in securely but I am pretty sure that is where it belongs.

I now have another coolant leak to deal with and it is in the back of the head! I think it is the plate )coolant bypass). The machine shop took it off and I don't remember putting a gasket on it!! Damm

I have another question about some tube connections but will start a new thread with it.
