because you basically open up a large vacuum leak, letting a ton of unmetered air into the engine, and it messes up the air/fuel ratio so much that the engine cuts off

I drove 120 miles up some huge hills after forgetting to put my oil cap on.
It was little down on power and got worse fuel mileage. I ended up loosing a 1/2 quart before i found oil all over the ground the next day cause it dripped down from the splatter.
I was 2 hours away from home so it scared the crap out of me, glad it was just that.

Hey Joshua, my 22re does the same thing. I've never owned a car that died when I pulled the hose off. It would obviously run horrible, but never die. I guess its normal. I've never got a straight answer from others here about it happening with theirs or not.
My last 22re did NOT die when I pulled the hose off. So I'm not sure what that means...
I have to plug the hose with my finger now while I get my can of sea foam in position.

nice razed, didn't think about the difference between pulling with and without the pcv attached, but that's a pretty darn good point, and could be why people are getting mixed results pulling their PCV when running.

I'm strictly talking about taking the hose off from the PCV so you can use the vacuum of the hose to suck in Seafoam. I personally understand completely that its causing a vacuum leak, and understand it will run like crap.
My concern is that every other car I've ever dealt with, pulling the hose off to use Seafoam NEVER killed the motor. Do all 22re's die when pulling the hose off or not? Either those 22re's that are dying have really good vacuum, or they have a vacuum leak somewhere else.
