does any one who lives in austin tx have a wheel bearing socket i could borrow? or do you know where i could buy a cheap one locally?

it's a 54MM socket, if that helps you find one ( I THINK a 2 13/16 fits as well if I'm not mistaken)

sometimes hardware stores carry them, and a few auto parts stores, but not many

you're best bet would be to oder one online like from WabFab

I bought mine at Sears and I think it's a 2 1/8 inch socket actually, 3/4 inch drive

just call me smithy

I use a chisel to remove and install the nut, works just fine.

Yep, having the socket is nice, but it can easily be done with a screwdriver or chisel. I have done both methods, both work, and both are easy.

but you cannot accurately re-torque them during installation with a screwdriver or chisel

eh they dont need to be prefect, just go by feel. I rarely use a torque wrench

I got my 2 1/8" at Tractor Supply for maybe $13. Plus you will need a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter for it for another $7.
