WHAT are these holes for?

Hi Folks. On my 88 pickup, 4cyl 2wd AT longbed, up at the front left of the engine compartment, are two threaded holes (see image). Can someone tell me what was bolted on here? Does your truck have them?

I've been looking in the Haynes manual but am no smarter for it. Hope YotaTech community can help. Thanks!

I pulled up engine bay pics on the net and I don’t see anything going to the arrow on the left, the one on the right I see it being used for part of the air intake plate? I have a 91 and I believe the plastic intake assembly that the intake tube bolts to the right hole, I think, my truck is covered at the moment

Someone else may chime in…..

As Discombobulated mentioned the right one is used as a mounting point for an air intake shroud that feeds from the headlight into the lower part of the engine air filter box on the V6 engines. The left hole is not used. This being a 94 sr5 v6 4x4 pickup.

Most likely for Non-USA vehicles. I saw one image of a 1987 Surf with a diesel that had a second battery on the left side, and one of those holes were used for the hold down bracket.

Thanks, guys. I'm just OCD enough to want to put a couple of original-looking bolts in there.

If you really feel like getting crazy you could get some black screw plugs from a hardware store and paint them white or just leave them black
