Question What is this mystery wire and the "box" is powers?

Hello All. I removed my Ignition Coil and Igniter Assembly to test and clean them up and when I put them back I noticed a mystery wire had separated. I removed the old electrical tape and sure enough it had pulled out of the crimp connector it was in. When I connected the two ends I could hear a "click" on the passenger's side of the engine bay and reached over to finally discover this black box clicking. I've tried to figure out what it is but the closest answer I can get is that it's a Starter Relay - but it's not that.

What is this thing? It's wired to the metal, finned box on mounted to the wall (at the photo's bottom) and to the fuse box. Thanks.

That looks like a starter relay retrofit from PO. Check out this awsome thread by RAD4runner

Yea, aftermarket relay. You have to trace the wires to know what it controls for sure

Thanks for the quick response. I just realized it kind of looks like I'm pointing further down at the Hot Shot I had put in, which isn't what I mean. My fault. Here's a much clearer picture:

So, this box is a starter relay retrofit?

Not 100%, just a guess based on location. Is your truck a manual 5 speed? Where does the orange wire go?

Fair. I took out the fuse box today and saw that the 12V-30amp Mystery Box is wired into it for sure - it looks like a factory job, but who knows. Previous owner(s) weren't kind to my kid. My truck is an automatic and the orange wire goes down to a Hot Shot I had put in. It's similar to the one you mentioned by RAD4Runner. I, too, got tired of the "click click" here and there. It's kind of hard to tell because the wire colors looks so similar but the ones coming out of the box are red (2) and green (1). Thanks for chiming in!

The Hotshot is the retrofit.
Gotta find where all the 3 wires connected to the Mystery box, including the other end of the black wire, go and show us.
