if it's carb'd, the fuel filter should be near the gas tank, or on the right fender well.

true for a 22re (injected), but not for 22r (carb'd)

I know on my old 85 X-Cab PU 22R it was mounted on the frame between the tank and engine bay. Man it's been a long time since I have thought about that.

On my 86 2wd with a 22R it was on the inside edge of the frame rail in front of the gas tank.

no disrespect intended, but... are you sure it's a 22r and not a 22re?

If it's the 22RE (injected), then the fuel filter is under the intake manifold, mounted to the block and is a pita to get to... that's why I have mine NOT bolted to the block, and resting on the fender NEXT to the intake manifold...the stock fuel lines allow this and it's been fine so far...it's very easy to change now!

Fuel filters are overrated

But, if its stock, it should be mounted just above the frame about the middle of the fuel tank.

IIRC. It is obstructed by a cross member. But it is on the frame rail. Meaning, you can feel it but not see it unless you drop the cross member.
Transfer case I think. It has been a long time.

You can't drop the crossmembers in the rear without cutting them off the frame Or are you talking about the fuel tank straps/crossmembers?

its infront of the fuel door betweem the tank and the rail inbetween the two bed mounts (on a stndrd cab) but still same place on the xtra cab

for all 22r model toyota pickups. 22re is in the engine bay

To remove the fuel filter completely would require hooking the hoses together, i don tknow why anyone would do that

this is the best photo i could find

the bracket is mounted to the second mount (away from the cab) on my rig. I dont use the bracket anymore I used zip ties on the fuel lines to hold everything in place

Take a picture. It should be near the filler neck. It is possible some redneck bypassed it.

ok..yall were right...aparently we didnt look hard enough..its right where yall said it was...right there in the pic too...so...took it off...sure enough its clogged...so i cut it open..and its got rusty gas in it...BUT...the gas coming out of the filter was clear..just like it should be..but it was nasty...so since i already put another filter under the hood less than an hr ago..i just bypassed the one by the tank until tomorrow...so..as of now..the fuel problem is fixed..no more spitting and sputtering ad dying..BUT...new problem...i cant even get it to speed up past 55...its like i have lost ALOT of power...i have an after market exhaust on it right now...its a thrush turbo muffler with a turndown...no cat...the muffler is where the cat was...and its been fine...until one day i was getting on the interstate...and i was in second gear doin about 30mph...and all i hear is..POP...then a really loud noise..so i figured i cracked my exhaust manifold..well turns out...our mechanic forgot 3 bolts when he put the manifold back on..so that made me lose power..and i had a 4ft flame shooting out the tailpipe as i let off the gas...(all my friends loved it.LOL...they were drunk..lol)...so i get back to the house the next day...figure out the problem...put a bolt in it..problem solved..i thought....now it runs fine around town..PLENTY of power..but once i lay on it..and i start getting in the higher level rpm's...i can here it start leaking up there from the other 2 holes...so my question is...could that be where my power loss is coming from?...i drive 10 miles to ICTC EVERY morning...and my class starts at 8..and i leave my house at 7:40..and get breakfast at a gas station..so i get there at about 7:55...well..cant do that goin only 55 mph...im also getting horrible gas mileage since i filled up last..(about last thursday or friday)...which is when all this fuel stuff and everything started going wrong...i work everyday..so i need the vehicle to be in pretty decent running condition..im used to running about 75 on the interstate no problem..now i can barely get 55...big problem..help my out!!!
