so i have pictures of the after-math of the exploding fan.



what is the plastic box on the right with the hole in it? where can i get a new one and how much is it? can i just get rid of it? as much info on this as possible would be a huge help. thanks.

 

Its a silencer, ditch it, plug the hole where it was.

 

any info on how to do that? what about the hose that seems to be coming from the engine?

 

search (here, and on other forums) for ISR Mod. Or Intake Silencer Removal for your vehicle.

 

Its there for a reason to connect to your vacuum system.

Although what you can do is change it around a bit for better flow. So a search for the mod I have read it before. It is a bit time consuming but fun to do from what Ive read. Up to you...

I suggest going to a junk yard and pulling a new one.
I cant see you paying more than 20bux for a used one probably less.

Why did you fan explode?? Stick something in there that didn't belong?

 

pretty sure the fan blew up because of the freeze what got up here. i think that the plastic got brittle and then just flew to pieces.

NO!

That's not the intake silencer. It's the resonator for the PAIR reed valve.

If you run without the resonator you should put a breather on the pipe end and plug the air cleaner box hole.

The ISR mod removes the other box that enters the air cleaner hose after the VAFM and before the TB.

 

where would i get a breather? is that just the little mini filter thingy that you can buy in the rice section at advanced auto?

 

Yep, they call them PCV breathers usually.
