What color to paint the 4Runner?

And, well, as far as the engine goes; Unless he's going to paint the engine bay with Cephelon-Teflon, he will still have to clean the engine bay on occasion. This is the first motor I've built to this extent, and I've seen MANY hard crawlin homies on here do as much or more,......and then they spend 30 minutes cleaning the bay. I've been through plenty of mud in the past, and I don't remember cleaning mud out of the cracks in my intake. Maybe I should try driving in it till it's up to the top of the fenders... Nahhhhhh, just not me, I guess I better keep it in my garage then, eh? lol
Swimmerboy, .....I've been 4wheeling for 20 years, NEVER anything CRAZY, but some pretty hairy situations...There are different applications for each 'fav' type of driving. I personally like the 'multi-purpose' offroading style, best. Moze, a guy on here, is going for the 80mph across the desert style, lol. Others want to crawl through boulders, deflate their 39.5's half way and GO NUTS(which, btw, is what SLIDERS and ARB gear is for.....Not sure you need to paint your truck with bedliner). Anyhow, you do all the research you need to and then go from there. "Do I want a 6" lift or will I be fine with a 2" Old Man Emu and some 32's"....is a question I just asked myself. Then, YOU DECIDE what you want and what's most practical.... And enjoy the Yellow, Young Man, I CAN TELL it's burned a place in your brain already, hahaha.

Uhhhhhhh, HAHAHAHA! Craneguy, you have a nice rig. But, ....'save yourself some tickets if you like to speed"??? While I agree, Red attracts more attention, I think that, unless Swimmerboy plans on SPEEDING all over town in his 22re, ....Yellow is GREAT...because that's what he wants.
Ok, now you're just being presumptuous and, well, you're just not making sense. I've been 4wheeling this and my last 3 Toy's since 1997, all of them were this clean, despite 50,000(between them all) miles or so of deep back trails and fireroads in the High Sierras, Angeles Crest and North American Fork region. They've been to Pismo, Death Valley, and all through Washington state. Go figure, I've driven these yota's 300,000 miles, combined, in the last 13 years, and NEVER had but ONE speeding ticket.....which just happened to be in my WHITE 4Runner. I LOVE that color of your truck, ...my friend had it, and I'd even suggested it earlier to Swimmerboy......However, mine came Red, and seeing that I'm trying to do one thing at a time, I figured I'd do the motor, first, ....and heck, the red has grown on me. Yellow is the color that, for whatever reason, is BURNED into his mind, lol.

Well, to start with, LOTS OF MONEY! lol. You need to start a couple checklists. One, make one of just what you want to do, how far you want to go offroad, etc.(how much you want to spend REALLY comes into play, here, as a SAS can run upwards of 4G's!) Also, if this is a DD, or going to be your primary vehicle, remember that gears, SUPER build motors, HUGE tires, etc., can KILL your mileage! Do MASSIVE research on 'which tire', 'where to buy them and who has the best deal', etc., once you've decided, first, THE LIFT. If you're doing a lift, decide whether you want to bring it up, or if you're really wanting to 're-fresh' your suspension a bit, like with an Old Man Emu. REALLY look into this stuff, Swimmer, because once you've welded and bolted stuff in, IT'S EXPENSIVE to change to something else. I mean, it's expensive in the first place, but these rigs ARE A GOOD INVESTMENT! Just want to be sure what you want to spend on what and how versatile you want it to be, right?
1. How much can I spend
2. What do I want to achieve(REALLY think this out)
3. What if I need to work on the motor in the next few months....how much should I have aside for that?
4. What tire for what lift, depending on what you decide for practicality or ROMPING-if you don't care about being practical, lol.
5. Probably most important, 'WHICH BRANDS?'
You're going to do well, as long as you remember to avoid 'impulse' purchases and 'dang that looks great' taking too much of a front seat to how useful it will be for you.
Great to see you getting so into this!

Well, I guess i have A LOT of questions then. As i said earlier, it would be better to discuss these on my build thread. And yes, i love cars so even though i bought the truck as my daily driver, i now want to do more with it!

painting a stripe is easy. jack up the truck, get a quality paint brush at an art store. ask the cute artsy chick for help and maybe you'll score some digits while you're there cuz chix dig 4runners, naturally. clamp/visegrip that brush to a heavy stand next to the wheel. set it up perfectly perpendicular, and spin the wheel. DING! faster than a hot pocket.
line up the stand with chalk first and make sure your rims dont have a hop. which they shouldn't if you buy them new and inspect them immediately as i advised in an earlier post. hah!
after you stripe it, get a larger brush and do the same technique with some clearcoat to seal it in there. few weeks later wax them 7-8 times and you're done.
(of course, wipe the rim FIRST with a surface prep cloth to remove all grease. I KNOW you already knew this)
if you wanna REALLY standout, get them yellow self illuminating tire valve caps. then your yellow stripe will appear to glow in the dark when you're rolling. now if THAT doesn't get you ... a memorable summer, then we're going to have to repo that yota.
stay tuned. i literally am building one right now. if it passes testing, i'll make more. you might have paid for all this paint work and wheels by then!

those ARE the $40 rims from Summit. you will want to buy, so choose now, lug nuts and center caps for the rear. black or chrome? don't forget a matching lock set! (you can see i went all black. everything chrome is slowly vanishing)

-Well then, do you have any close-up pics of your rims?
-That is a great way to paint the lip!!
-I shall get black center caps by the way.
-I know to clean the rims, and i will inspect them once i get them.
-Where can i purchase a yellow self-illuminating tire valve cap?
-I shall stay tuned to your soft top build, i REALLY NEED one lol
Thanks for all your help!!
