weak clucht pedal
i just finish my first clutch job. Thanks again for everyones help, but my 95 4runner is still not acting right. the clutch pedal still only works really low to the floor, and it still doesn't spring back up all the way. I can only put it in reverse with the engine off or it will grind (really annoying). It is also hard to put it in first as well. Clutch fluid is full. I know i need shifter seat bushing, as i found that mine are not there. but what causes the clutch pedal to do this? Is there some kind of adjustment that can be made, or a new part to install?

It sounds like you've got air in your clutch hydraulic system. Try bleeding it out again, and don't forget to bench bleed the MC before reinstalling it to the line.

Sounds like you might need to to bleed the line a little better.
Takes some practice to get all the air out. Hydro pressure builds when you press the pedal, and then returns the pedal when you let off. No or uneven pressure could explain why your pedal stays at the floor.
Make sure you have no fluid leaks at your connections also.

hey vette dont feel alone im using the advice of these guys as well i have a 94 and i am having the exact problems u are but im more severe im having to replace my clutch i recommend u stop driving it until u get it bled and fixed before ur problem becomes expensive!! dont even try 4 wheel and whatever u do stay off the clutch at high speeds stay on the backstreets rather than the freeways. basically if possible park it and fix it before u drive again! plz take my advice i'd hate to see u have my problem. let me know how it goes! good luck!

If all of the hydraulics check out to be good, look way up under the dash with a flashlight while pressing down the clutch pedal and see if the metal pedal bracket is flexing in the upper left corner. It happens on a lot of higher mileage trucks of this body style. The fix is to remove the whole bracket (which holds the clutch/brake pedals and master cylinders) and have that corner welded up and reinforced. My dad's truck cracked up in the corner with 225,000 miles on it. Once it's welded, you'll never have to worry about it again.

Also, check for push rod extension at the slave cylinder end. If the extension is within spec and you still have problems disengaging the clutch, you may have an issue with clutch components that are not releasing the pressure plate adequately while the clutch pedal is depressed.

hey radyota was right but it was already welded. the bracket is fine but i guess the person who owned it before me had that problem. anyway i bled the line and the pedal still would not rise fully, so then i adjusted the pushrod behind the pedal which fix that problem, but it is still grinding in reverse. If i hold the clutch down for about 3-4 seconds and then put it in reverse it wont grind. What causes this? I haven't checked the slave cylinder yet, what should i look for?
